Why would these pastors have a fear of retaliation?

Maybe they have received a spirit of fear?

The "fear" is probably the potential loss of contacts and connections should they need referrals when it is time to search for a new ministry location.

Yet Romans 8 tells us that we have not received a spirit of fear, but one by which we cry out "Abba, Father"

Now, if believers have not received a spirit of fear, but it would appear these folks have.....

connect the dots. It's either they are not His, or they are so worldly that they are useless anyway.

Running away from a worldly establishment, only to begin another worldly establishment?

Everything you state is true James....I was just commenting on my perception of the issue. Living a life of solid faith is not easy to do. It is easy to proclaim, but infinitely more difficult to do.

You're right. But what Jerome quoted, I've seen in Missouri. Here's what I see in the quote:

Too much money in the State Association, translating to too much power. We want to keep OUR money local. And they fear repercussions for it.

Sounds like they're scared of the mob. So they're putting together this somewhat secret club, where they won't reveal their names until the participation is high enough to overcome the threat of "punishment"

It's a bunch of worldly men, afraid of other worldly men, leaning on their own understanding and not God.

Seems Baptists are pretty good at behavioral mandates, but horrible when it comes to trusting God when push comes to shove.

They'd rather be secretive or backstabbing, or suing each other in secular courts. So much for His ways being higher than ours, right?

    It's absolutely pathetic
