God called Jonah to preach to Nineveh and God called many to salvation. It was not Jonahs persuasive words but God who brought about salvation.

Do you believe that God can do a similar work in Denver, New York, San Francisco, LA, Dallas, Houston, Chicago? I believe that he can but the problem is most christians do not see a need to confront the world and to preach repentance. Most have better things to do and would rather be involved in non confrontational ministry.

Listening to a recent Way of the Master minute on confronting false teachers the suggestion was to be bold and to open up the law in doing so. Are you doing this when you confront false teachers? Are you writing letters, meetings with false prophets and calling them to repentance? If not go out and do what Jesus did.

I think if people all did these things we may see rivals in cities. So go out and call people to repentance as Jonah did!!

Any preacher with any sincerity to God will admit that what they do is just their work for God. If anyone is saved under the sound of their preaching, it is because God saved them. If there is any preacher that claims to have saved anybody, you'd do well to get away from that preacher.

Just preach the word. Don't go into a place with the intention of being confrontational. People are rather disinclined to listen to someone who is being confrontational to them for no reason other than to be confrontational. Just preach the word and trust in God to give the increase.

Jesus wrote letters? Jesus preached repentance and love. It is better to bring out the truth against someone through the scripture than to engage them with confrontation on your mind.

The great sin of Christians is preaching what man supposedly needs to do in order to be saved, and falsely calling it repentance.

Paul preached Christ crucified, and this is missing in most of faux Christianity.

The gospel of His cross, His death, His blood, have been shoved to the side in favor of a voodoo of you-do

Christ reconciled sinners, but faux Christianity is preaching self reconciliation. If YOU supposedly turn from sin, if YOU make a commitment to works, if YOU say a prayer, if YOU, YOU, YOU.

So the cross is shoved into a ditch and buried, scarcely dug up in today's "church" which has a form of godliness yet denies the power thereof.

Serving the ministry of death, found in the Law, masked by words like "repent"

Preaching repentance and Hell is love. Not preaching these things is not love. Anyone whom confronts false teachers, and others not in authority and calling them to repent is preaching love.

I thought we were to "go into all the world and preach the gospel" and "go out into the highways and byways and compel them to come in" and "you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" and "repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations..."

I don't see where we are supposed to give someone a quiz on the Ten Commandments or write letters to false teachers, have meetings with or confront false teachers. I just don't see it. So, no, I'm not doing this.

I am bringing up Jesus in conversations as often as I can. I am answering questions friends and family have about spiritual issues. I am forwarding links to sermons I feel my friends need to hear. I am giving praise reports about what God has done in my life in emails and on the phone to my friends and family.

I do not go out into the street and yell at people. I don't go door-to-door because people resent the interruptions. I don't write letters (other than emails).

What makes you think you are in a position to tell people on this board how to conduct their lives. You do not qualify as a pastor by your own admission since you are not the Spiritual Leader in your household, your wife is. So until you get your household in order you really can't act like you are in a position to shepherd people to do what you want them to do.

Also the warnings about doing things for the praise of men comes to mind. There is no reason except that you are looking for pats on the back for you to come in and talk about how you argued with this person or confronted that person.

Regarding your thread title--"The Great Sin of Evangelicals", what is that 'great sin' exactly?

Well, I recently signed up for the "Way of the Master" Do-It-Yourself Evangelism Kit. It comes with a life-size cardboard cut-out of Ray Comfort that you can carry with you on your trips. It also has form letters in which you only have to fill in the blank for the person/church/business and sin they've committed. The envelopes are even prepaid postage.

I'm hoping my Kirk Cameron cardboard cutout arrives soon. [/sarcasm]

Last week I spent over 60 hours face to face with folks going through various levels of cancer treatment. We're all going to die. They have a better idea of when. When your hair is all gone and you have burns from radiation treatment you ask question about what happens after life is done. I thought it was a good idea to hold their hand, wipe their tears and tell them about Jesus.

I should have checked with you first and stood across the room and yelled at them.

Go stand and preach is a good DVD on history of open air preaching and the crucial ness of it. Both Washer and Comfort give their input.

Remember, Evan, that not everyone here likes and agrees with what Washer and Comfort have to say. Washer, in particular, has said things that son't sit well with loads of people I know.

You come on this board that is literally filled with godly, experienced people, many of them are longtime pastors that have built churches and you put out these posts imploring people to do things a certain way and when these knowledgeable people disagree with you, you act shocked and put out, and just plow ahead with your pre-conceived ideas regarding how to evangelize, basically saying you're rejecting their advice and you're going to do it your way, even though you admit that your way has not shown much, if anything in the way of results, yet you soldier on.

Why do you not listen to these people?
