I don't understand why there is all this fuss about illegal immigrants. Arrest the folks who are hiring them and the jobs go away and they'll stop coming.

Given that logic……if you've eaten any strawberries, avocados, artichokes, green beans, brussels sprouts, or red potatoes from a national brand, lately, you should be arrested, as well.

NO - arrest the govt officials who are giving them drivers license, welfare, and other tax payer benefits.

Why put the burden of proving legal residence on the employer. He is burden with too much red tape as it is.

Most states do not give illegals driver's licenses, welfare, or other benefits UNLESS they have a social security number.

Because in order to have a job you are required to have a social security number. By law, the employer must collect social security numbers, therefore the employer is the main entity that will check for that piece of identification.

I agree with Zaac--arrest employers that hire illegals. However, you also have to deport the illegal workers. This is a sensible action to take as a multi-pronged strategy to reduce/eliminate illegal immigrants. You might have noticed that busts of companies hiring illegal workers are very rare.

It is not an employer's job to make sure their employees are here legally. If they have a fake SS#, and have lied to the authorities, it should not be put on the employer.

The federal government needs to enforce federal immigration law. Several states have tried to do the right thing, only to be blocked by team zero.

I agree. I was talking about employers that don't even check for SSN#'s. I should have made it more clear.

BTW, there is a Republican plan to require employers to check the validity of SSN#'s through a centralized record system.

Bush was not very aggressive in this department either.

Because it's THE LAW. If you're going to hire someone, you're supposed to make sure that they are here legally so that you ( the company doing the hiring), can pay the appropriate taxes.

The government officials don't have anything to do with folks coming over here.

They are coming to work. If there's no work, they won't come.

Arrest the folks who continue to benefit from skirting the system. They'll either start hiring folks who are legal or go out of business.

Either way, there will be no jobs for the illegals so they won't come.

Yes it should. It should not be the sole responsibility of the employers but there are verification systems and hiring one should be on the employers as well.

It's been put on the employer. It's the employer's job to file the requisite paper work to pay taxes. It's the employer's responsibility to fill out the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification form. So yes, it is the employer's responsibility to verify if the documentation provided is adequate to qualify the person as a potential hiree.

Again, arrest the folks who are hiring them. That will start enforcing federal immigration law.

People who bypass federal & state employment documentation laws already have consequences. Nothing to do with immigration.

Evading immigrations sounds like motivation #1 for employers that bypass federal employment documentation laws. What would be #2 and #3?

Sure it does. In most of the instances that they are doing it, they aren't filing the requisite paperwork because they are paying people under the table.

If they weren't hiring the illegals, they would stop coming.

The laws against false documentation already do not get enforced. If they did, the problem would take care of itself.

You would have no such thing as employing illegal immigrants.

I can't follow this argument. It seems you are saying:

"People who are not providing legitimate documentation are not being pursued."

How would anyone know if that was the situation?

Not necessarily as a lot of them aren't documenting anyhow. They are just hiring these folks and paying them underneath the table. It's not like the illegals can complain to someone that they aren't being paid a fare wage.

Yes. Hiring under the table is against the law. If it was investigated and enforced, the hiring of illegals would stop.

An employer who is following the law on documenting his workers will not have to worry about hiring any illegals.

    Hope that was clearer.

An employer can be prosecuted for using immigration status as a reason not to hire someone.

I agree Zaac. The current law states it is illegal to help an illegal alien. Enforce the law. Of course might have to arrest some government officials at the same time, especially in the sanctuary cities and states.
