Officer Rich Dahl responded to an anonymous complaint from a customer about a woman who brought a kangaroo into McDonald's. Dahl said Tuesday the woman had the baby kangaroo wrapped in a blanket and tucked in an infant car seat.

Dahl says when he confronted the woman she explained the kangaroo was a service animal to help her cope with emotional distress and she produced a letter from a doctor.

The officer says the woman was upset at first, but then agreed to leave the restaurant.

No word on whether or not the woman was going to hug Roo to get a free meal under McDonald's "Lovin' It" free meal promotion.

I have a service animal. Producing a doctor's letter is not enough. In fact, it's not necessary. What you need is the registration papers with a photo ID of the animal in question. If you have that, you can't be asked to leave.

When I drove taxi - My route was to pick up disabled customers.

I was NOT ALLOWED TO ask if an animal was a service animal.

One day, had a young lady in the car who was allergic to dogs. Of Couse the other passenger had a dog.
The next day, I asked one of my blind customers (whom I know very well) which disability should have more priority - the girl with allergies or the blind customer with a dog.
He told me the blind customer should ALWAYS have priority.

As you remember, a lady brought a pig on an airline on Nov. 29 last year. It was a support animal. She had it in a duffel bag. The pig freaked out and the lady was thrown off the plane.

She didn't have the pig in a blanket as the lady did with the kangaroo (a useful support animal in a court case no doubt). Everybody likes pigs in blankets.

C'mon, admit it. When you saw the thread title/headline you pictured a woman with an adult kangaroo on a collar and leash standing at the front counter looking up at the menu, didn't you?

Kinda. Just couldn't quite see it though.

What do kangaroos eat? McDonalds isn't really fit for man nor beast.

The officer may have done them both a favor.

Wisconsin needs to compete with the excitement of Minnesota. After all, we do not have kings and celebrities visiting clinics like you do.

We had a woman come to church with a cat in a carrier. She was told that only service animals were allowed in the building and she said that the cat was a service animal (in such an obvious way that she was just trying to keep the animal there). Fortunately, we know the laws and cats do not qualify as service animals. She left quite angry.

But you've got washed-up celebrities making TV commercials for Wisconsin tourism that the governor of Minnesota calls, "one of the most idiotic things I've ever seen."

I have to correct you there. You're somewhat right, but not completely. There are two levels of service animal. The actual service animal, and an emotional support animal. An emotional support animal can be any animal you can legally own. I'm not sure what animals can qualify as a service animal, but they have to be trained not by the owner, but by a professional.

An ESA (emotional support animal) has the same rights as a service animal, but not in as many places. An ESA must be allowed on planes, in hotels, and in rental homes. They are not protected in other businesses, although most business owners either don't know this, or don't mind.

If a person has an actual ESA or service animal, they will have documentation on them.

There is only one level of service animals and an ESA is a completely different category. In this case, the woman declared her cat to be a service animal - clearly looking to just keep her cat with her and disobey the rules of our church.

But could you catch one if it were running around in your yard?
