The Truths of Tulip are the Gospel , that is each point made by the acronym are Truths found in the scripture that set forth the reason why Salvation is totally of God, of His Free and Sovereign Grace, and it gives the sinner no lead way to boast !

The First point of the acronym TULIP that gives the unbelieving religious world its biggest obstacle, and which Truth it rebels the most of, is Total Depravity or Total inability of the natural man spiritually ! Us men and women by nature cannot do anything good spiritually and it be acceptable to God. We are by nature alientated from the Life of God Eph 4:18

Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

    That word alienated apallotrioō means:

    I.to alienate, estrange

II.to be shut out from one's fellowship and intimacy

You know how in the parable in Matt 25 the foolish virgins are shut out from Matt 25:8-12

And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.

12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

Thats how it is with man by nature, the door to God is shut, and wont open !

And not only that, but man in our carnal state by nature are sold under sin, a slave to it Rom 7:14

For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

Sold under its power and dominion, a slave to it, a servant to it ! Rom 6:22

But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

men by nature must be made free from the servitude of sin, that fact alone speaks against the religious idol mans freewill, mans will by nature is not free, its sold under sin.

Thats why all movement God-ward in a spiritually good way must be contributed to being made a New Creature ! Thats a Credit to God's Grace, so thats why the T in TULIP is such a hated Doctrine of the Gospel of God's Grace, it cuts off any means for man by nature to boast !

You will not get any argument from me. The reason I understand the Free Will brethren is that as Bro Willis commented on another post we all that embrace Total Depravity, at one time came from fee will. It was Christ and us working together to get us to heaven. We were delivered from that and in the scriptures when Jesus Christ says "I AM THE WAY"! we know exactly what that statement means... The inability of man and the need of a Saviour!... Brother Glen

Man by nature is sold under since and as such has no power /ability to obey the command of God Rom 8:7 !

So by nature no man has the ability to obey the command to repent as per Acts 17 :30 hence that command is not to the carnal Man by nature!

Hearing the Word of God !

    Jn 8:43-47

43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

Man by nature does have the ability to hear God's word physically with the physical ear, as long as they are not physically handicapped by being deaf !

The issue at hand however is that man by nature cannot hear God's Word Spiritually with the ability to also understand it.

Notice in Vs 43 Jesus says to the natural jews of His day :

43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

See how Jesus, God in the flesh speaking to them, links hearing with understanding.

The word speech here is the greek word lalia and means:

    I.speech, i.e a story

    II.dialect, mode of speech, pronunciation

A.speech which discloses the speaker's native country

speech which discloses the speaker's native country: hence of the speech by which Christ may be recognized as having come from heaven,

Jesus came down from Heaven Jn 6:51

I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

    Jn 8:23

And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

    Jn 8:38

I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.

    Jn 12:49

For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

So by nature men do not have the ability to hear and understand the heavenly message which Jesus spoke, and thats what His point is in Jn 8:43-47 !

True Spiritual hearing is attended with understanding, so it is written Matt 13:13-15

13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:

15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

The Hearing here that denotes Conversion is coupled with understanding what you hear with the heart, and we mean a spiritual understanding, which by nature no man has Rom 3:11

11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

Remember the difference between the stony heart or ground hearer of the word and that of the good heart or ground hearer ?

Notice first the stony ground Matt 13:20-21

    20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;

21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.

And now the good ground hearer Matt 13:23

23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

Now whats the difference indicated by these scriptures in the Two hearers ! What does it say about the good ground hearer of the word that it does not say about the stony ground hearer of the word ?

If you say that the difference is to the one being the good ground hearer, that he not only heard the word but understood it, you judge correctly.

Not that the stony ground hearer didnt hear it physically, but he never heard it with understanding, so as to bring forth the fruit of conversion !

And just to show the consistency of truth, the word understandeth in Matt 13:23

It is the same word for understandeth in Rom 3:11 ! This proves that the good ground hearer had been given a New Heart so that he could both spiritually hear and understand the word, and hence be converted and bear fruit ! Because hearing and understanding with the heart are that which bring forth conversion Matt 13:15

15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

I see, you cannot answer it because we both know the answer so you avoid my question. Clearly my question, in and of itself, shows I understand it. So now answer my question.

Gotchya you can't answer it. Noted. I have to wonder why you want to hold on to a doctrine you cannot reasonably defend.

So if I don't hold to TULIP then I don't hold to the gospel? Well, at least you are consistent in that.

So can someone have a "new heart" and still not be saved? Or is it automatic that if God gives the person a new heart they cannot do anything but be saved? If it is indeed the latter, then it begs the question of why we are doing anything. Why preach? Why testify? Why evangelize? If God does all the work, then there is no point to the existence of man working in the ministry.

Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Do you think it is possible that the above post of your was posted "in the flesh," or was it written according to the Holy Spirit of God? There are only those two choices.
Christians do act carnally; "in the flesh," and it is not pleasing to God when they do. In fact, acting "in the flesh" cannot please God, therefore we are commanded to "yield ourselves to the Holy Spirit,"
"Be filled with the Holy Spirit."
    "Quench not the Holy Spirit."

For the Christian, living a worldly life, is carnal and acting in the flesh.
Saying things that one ought not to, is "of the flesh" and carnal. It does not please God, and cannot please God.

Romans 8:7,8 is not speaking of salvation; it speaking of the believer who is acting immaturely, like the world and not like Christ. It is no guarantee that you are regenerated.
