For a moment or two, pretend you are a candidate for the office of president. What five issues would you build your platform on in 2016? And what party would you represent?

End to the wars, along with a serious re-vamping of how our military is used.
    Border Security.
    Audit Several Government watchdog agencies.
End lobbying and install term limits.
A SERIOUS revamping of the Justice department.

    1. Get rid of the IRS as we know it and institute a flat tax.
    2. Set term limits for Congress and then set about changing Article III of the Constitution to limit the time that Supreme Court Justices, Court of Appeals Judges, and District Court Judges can serve.
    3. Kick the UN off US soil. Canada can have them.
    4. Secure the border and arrest the owner of companies who hire illegals.
    5. Revamp the public school system and pay teachers a minimum 100K a year. Only Ph. Ds need apply. Will phase out anyone else who is not serious about furthering their education so that they may be an asset to the upcoming generations.
    6. Release all non-violent prisoners from jail.

I so much agree with number 6, and wanted to write it, but was given only five. I guess it would fall under the revamping of the DOJ.

But thanx for adding it. It looks like we pretty much are on the same page.

Great idea for a thread RD2:

    1. Eliminate soft money contributions to all political offices.
    2. Institute a flat tax.
    3. Suspend the federal death penalty.
    4. Recraft the ACA to remove the mandate for individual policies, then provide a government option as an alternative to other medical insurance programs.
    5. Begin a massive, nationwide infrastructure redevelopment and support campaign, offering employment to millions.

Thats about it. I guess all the stuff current politicians lack the moxy to do. ;-)

    1. A return to the rule of law, through government submission to the Constitution and the appointment of strict constructionist judges.

    2. A small, decentralized government.

    3. Returning power to the states.

    4. Balancing our budget, paying our debt

    5. Repairing our relations with other nations, a defining a coherent foreign policy that consists of more than just hiding our head in the sand and appeasing our enemies.

My first act as president would be to gather Christian leaders and call for a period of fasting and repentance, and prayer for God's guidance and provision.

My second act would be to direct my Attorney General to begin criminal proceedings against Obama, the members of his cabinet, their underlings, and several members of Congress.

Third, I would sign an executive order nullifying all of Obama's executive orders and presidential memoranda.

I would then sign an executive order instructing all cabinets not directly related to the list of federal responsibilities listed in Article I, Section 8, to stand down and terminate all employees. And, of those cabinets remaining, to immediately halt all activities not directly related to the list of federal responsibilities listed in Article I, Section 8.

I would then sign an executive order recalling all troops from Europe and Asia, stationing them along the Mexican border, pending permission from the governors of those states.

I would next sign an executive order returning all federal lands to their respective states, and an executive order instruction the Department of Justice and the Department of the Treasury to initiate an audit of the Federal Reserve.

I would instruct my chief of staff to revoke all press credentials of NBC and its affiliates, and replace the existing press corps with members of alternative media sources.

Finally, I would instruct White House maintenance workers to remove all portraits and photos of Obama and put them in deep storage.

I'd probably be shot by the Democrats the next day.

First, I would secure the Southern border. Since this country does not know how to build a fence I would hire the Israelis to build one.

Second, I would cancel all Obummer executive orders in the event any remain in force after he leaves.

Third, I would ask Congress to repeal Obummercare and would use whatever Executive power was legal to halt its implementation until the law was repealed.

Fourth, I would eliminate the Department of Education and return education to the states where it legally belongs.

Fifth, I would ask Congress to amend the Constitution repealing the 16th Amendment and eliminating the IRS. I would ask Congress to institute a Transaction Tax to replace the Income tax.

Sixth, I would ask Congress to rebuild the US Military to a level that would ensure our national integrity.

Seventh, I would ask the attorney to undertake action to challenge every Federal Law that infringes on the 10th Amendment and Congress to repeal any that do the same.

Eighth, I would ask Congress to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment.

Ninth, I would ask Congress to pass legislation means testing both Social Security and Medicare.

Tenth, I would ask Congress to pass legislation that increased the retirement age to 70 in increments of 1-2 months each year.

    More to come!

    1. After I was elected as a Republican, I would rid the party of RINOs.
    2. End putting our nose into every problem of the world. If the threat was a true threat to the vital interests of the United States, I would ask the Congress to declare war and I would make short order of it with a sure victory and rapid exit.
    3. I would kick the UN out of the US and stop funding.
    4. Secure the southern border.
    5. Abolish the IRS and ask Congress to revamp the tax code to a simple percentage, no loopholes for anyone. A return could be filled out on one piece of paper.
    6. Change the business tax code to keep businesses at home.
    7. Overhaul Social Security and Medicare for anyone under 50 on a sliding scale.
    8. Withdraw our troops from Germany, Japan, and Iraq.
    9. Eliminate the Department of Education, transferring all functions to state and local authorities with block grants.
    10. Do everything politically possible to stop abortion and gay marriage to the point of Constitutional Amendments
    11. Stop funding bilingual government documents and telephone answering services. If you do not know English, you do not belong here.
    12. Streamlining the citizenship process for legal aliens. Deport all others.
    13. Within the government, stopping all activities of lobbyists, and other groups that interfere with the independent thinking of Congress.
    14. Demand a line item veto.
    15. Stop attaching unrelated failed bills to essential bills.
    16. Increase the work days of Congress to conform to the rest of the nation.
    17. Stop all government funding for political campaigns.
    18. Pass a law to limit campaigns to sixty days before a primary and sixty days before a general election.
    19. Stop abuses in the student loan program, such as thousands of dollars a semester for things other than books, tuition, room and board on campus.
    20. Hire competent folks to run the VA and USPS.
    21. Either abolish the FED or severely limit its power.
    22. Return printing money to the authority of the Congress.
    23. Pass a balanced budget amendment except in time of national emergency.
    24. Give Iran one week to dismantle their nuclear program along with North Korea. If they don't use tactical nucs to dismantle them.

I think you would reinstitute the sacrificing of chickens to cover the sins of the politicians.

Nah. If they work more hours, they'll pass more laws. <shiver> We don't need that. Just cut their pay to reflect the number of hours they're on Capitol Hill.

I would do just the opposite. I would go to a system like Texas has, where they only meet every other year.

More Congress means more corruption and more opportunities to subvert the Constitution and insert government into our lives.

And, really, Congressmen should be at home as much as possible, in order to be accountable to their constituents.

Besides, as president, you wouldn't have the authority to do that.
