    Assembly passes right-to-work

The Assembly approved right-to-work along party lines this morning, clearing the way for the bill to go to Gov. Scott Walker.

A Walker spokeswoman said the guv planned to sign it Monday.

 I think that this would make us the 25th state to have Right-to-Work.

I'm not sure what right to work is. I read the article, and it didn't explain it. I'll have to look it up later.

I am not anti-Union. In fact if the wealth gap keeps growing in this country I expect a resurgence of Unions. That being said I am a believer in right to work laws. People should not be forced to join a union to get a job or pay union dues if they don't want to join, especially given the political activity of unions. At the present time most, if not all, Unions are in violation of the Taft Hartley Law because of their political activity.

I am against unions for government workers, whether Federal, State, or local. They have bankrupted some cities, and perhaps Calif. before long, because politicians have no trouble wasting the taxpayer money.

Essentially, a Right-to-Work state outlaws forced union membership as a requirement for employment. Were an individual to wish to join his company's union, he may, but if he chooses not to he cannot be sacked based on his decision.

Indiana got right to work passed two or three years ago after a struggle of sixty years.

Now the fight is to stop unions from forcing state government to pay union wages on every construction project. The unions threaten violence over this. The poor taxpayer has to pay high prices for everything that the state does because of this law passed at the height of union power. Watch and see if Pence can this this one through the state legislature without the unions tearing up downtown Indianapolis.

How it ends up working in the real world.

It weakens unions which in turn reduces the amount of campaign contributions to the democratic party. The democratic party is then compelled to beg at the same corporate doors the republican party has traditionally had almost unfettered access to.

If the plan was to get both parties subservient to same the corporate masters then it's working just fine. But like most legislation it wasn't sold to us that way.

Interesting, Ponch always says that there is no difference between the D's and R's, yet admits they solicit different groups for different reasons.
Hmm - if there is no difference.....
and now back to the discussion of the OP

Should be the law of the land, not just 25 states.

The Mid West used to be highly unionized. Now the Mid West is highly bankrupt and unemployed. The Union movement is over.

But why is the unemployment rate so high?
too many demands of the union
    too many taxes on business
    too many regulations on business

The only reason I am familiar with Scott Walker is because my son lives in Madison and works as some kind of computer admin at TDS. We have been up there several times. One time while touring the state capitol, as we were leaving, got caught up in a crowd chanting "recall Walker." It took two blocks for us to walk our way out of it.

Anyway I believe this man to be one of the best governors in my memory. He believes in and acts on his convictions. He survived a recall and reelection. He is not like Mitch McConnell that has no moral compass or beliefs except political power. I hope Walker and Rand Paul are the 2016 ticket.

It looks as if Gov. Walker is the current front-runner for the GOP nomination; the GOP always nominates the front runner, but it is still very early. Gov. Walker is looking good.

That is because there is no difference between Democrats and Republicans. Yes they support abortion in different ways. One promotes it and the other talks against it at election time then does nothing. Wait what about gay marriage, exactly the same. Deficit same, immigration same, etc, etc, etc

We might as well elect Hillary then--she is the front-runner for the presidency and she is so presidential in appearance and actions. We can't do any better than her if there is no difference between the parties.

For the Christian, abortion and gay rights should be at the top of the list of concern for our nation. Did you not see the thread where thirty Republican leaders are calling on the Supreme Court to legalize marriage between two people of the same sex? Look closely at the Republican strategy on abortion. Their policy, lets talk about it at election time then do nothing. There has been plenty of time since 1973 that we have had a Republican President, Republican Congress and a conservative Supreme Court. So paint a picture and explain to us how the parties differ? Neither follows the Constitution. As far as the comment "we might as well elect Hillary" well, first of all, not in the state I live in. But that is really not the point. We have settled for liberal to moderate RINOs since Reagan left office. Having to choose the lesser of two evils is a monster of our own creation. We just do not get it. If you want to win, nominate a conservative, in other words someone other than Bush the Third, Christie, Romney, McCain and the rest of the RINOs. There are plenty of good candidates out there, Walker, Paul, Cruz, Perry, Rubio and others.

So there is a difference between Republicans and Democrats? I thought that you were making a libertarian point. Seriously, it looks as if Hillary is a shoo-in.

If you go to youtube and look up 2016 electoral predictions with Bush vs Clinton he gets crushed. That is why it is imperative to nominate a conservative.

Could you define "conservative"? There seems to be some confusion today about what conservatism actually is.
