There is a lot of talk these days of arming guards and church members during services at some churches. I'll assume many churches are considering these measures with the increased terrorism in the world today. What do you all feel about having people packin at church? Would you carry a hand gun in church for security measures? Is it Biblical?

I don't carry on Sunday, but I do on most every other day. No particular reason, just never have.

Probably 1/3 of our people carry, so I am very comfortable with them.

People carried personal protection weapons throughout the Bible. They built the walls with a trowel in 1 hand and a sword in the other. I think it's Biblical.

No one at our campus carries that I know of but I know at both of our other campuses, we have those who are armed. Most are former military and/or police and one is former secret service. :)

I imagine there's a gun or three around.

We've posted several notices that firearms aren't allowed in our buildings. A number of other churches and businesses in the area have these posted as well.

One of our members is a security consultant and he recommended this move with a lay committee we formed to help address security issues across our campus. He said that if anything were to happen the crossfire from armed congregants would be more dangerous than any single figure.

Our church affirmed this decision and we're happy with it.

Those who have a security plan and know how to use weapons would never create crossfire. Those who suggested such a thing does not know what they are talking about.

So you don't see this as an invitation to those who may try and do you harm. If they know no one is armed then they will feel very comfortable coming on your campus to do harm. I will never understand the liberal mindset?

We believe our God is greater than those who wish to harm us.

"Wise as serpents and harmless as doves" is an interesting notion to reconcile with present day global mayhem. Also: "Vengeance is mine saith The Lord, I will repay."

In the garden, Peter awakened long enough to fillet a temple soldier's ear with a sword. Jesus used this as an opportunity to witness--the ear was re-attached. Peter forsook, fled and denied Jesus three times before the sun came up on the next day--when Jesus was crucified.

Jesus told His followers to be witnesses of Him where ever they went--to the uttermost parts of the earth. The word translated witness could also be translated martyr. We have no idea of what that word means.

Most of the apostles, including Peter, did not die in nursing homes. Paul is a martyr too. The true witnesses of The Lord have been persecuted to the death in every generation even through today. There is little evidence of much physical resistance. There is evidence of Christians killing Christians.
That is an interesting chapter in world history--before we were enlightened of course.

Not sure packing a firearm would be very helpful unless one has a quickdraw holster and armor piercing bullets. There are probably more chances to be hit by lightning than by getting hit by gunfire in a church meeting.

Smith and Wesson still makes us feel good--been there, done that.

I am still convinced The Lord will not call us one second before it is time to go.

If one lives in an armed camp, that may be extenuating circumstances. The weapon still has to be ready to fire in a couple of seconds--for a warning volley anyway.

Not everyone is called to preach to the head hunters.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
