and at 7 am - people will complain that they impede traffic.

So if the electricity goes out, the Power company cant come until 7 am, as it might wake someone up.....

Even though this sounds messed up, I find it funny. But it sounds to me like he wasn't jailed for doing it one time. It's a recurring problem with a law broken over and over, and fines didn't stop it. So they escalated it.

It should never have come to jail time, but in all honesty, they did the right thing. It looks like a stupid rule, but it's still a rule. It was broken over and over, and the people tasked with enforcing the laws are trying to stop the breaking of them.

Yeah it is kinda crazy that it had to come to jail time but nothing is more annoying than waking up to the clanking of the garbage collectors. And 5am is deliberate breaking of the 7am to 7pm ordinance.

Though I am inclined to agree with Sapper Woody, I wonder if the gentleman was ordered to work that early or if he was ordered to work that early. If he was ordered, his employer should be in the dock as well.

I might've overlooked it in the article, but is this guy a multiple offender of this statute? If not, giving out the max sentence for a first offense seems a bit harsh.

I think its a dumb law.
Really, its only a matter of a few minutes.
    And just once a week?

Now, all night road construction, might be a different story.

I can name off several things that are more annoying to wake up to at 5am (or earlier)...

    - the neighbor firing up his big diesel pick-up at 4:15 every morning that takes a half-hour to warm up

    - gunshots from somebody doing some night-hunting

    - the neighbor's dog who loses his mind any time he sees a squirrel or a deer, and then barks for the next three hours

Thankfully, my hens don't usually wake up until after 7.

I agree it's a dumb law. But it's more than a few minutes. It was 2 hours early, and consistent. They tried fines, and fines didn't work. So they escalated the punishment.

I still think it's a dumb law. But it is a law. One that was broken multiple times. But, obviously the townspeople don't think it's a dumb law. Or it would not be there. If my garbage man was consistently waking me up, I might be more inclined to not think it was a dumb law. I work nights, and to be awakened at 5am would make me pretty upset.

Personally, I don't think it's a dumb law, even though I do feel the punishment might have been a bit much...but that's relative.

When I said a few minutes, I am talking about for how long you will hear it in front of your house.

Come on now guys! He had only been on the job 3 months, and multiple reports say the jail time was for doing it "one day." And people, not just one but multiple, were calling 9-1-1 over it.
This is not something to put the man in jail over.

    they called 911?

My understanding that 911 is for emergencies.

Sounds like crying wolf to me.

It's not even 6 a.m. here and the garbage is being picked up. The horror. LOL I'm the first one up, and everyone else is sleeping soundly through it. My laughter might be what wakes them. For some reason, this is striking me as really really funny!
