Some of us hold to a mild gap theory. That is, we see the possibility that sometime after initial creation, before the creation of humans, it is possible that there was something major that happened on this earth. Some see it as Biblically possible (not necessary, just possible) that it somehow concerned the fall of the angels. We tend to leave it there as hinted at in the Bible but not confirmed, and yet a possibility.

But there are some calling themselves gap theory out there that hold to a whole convoluted detailed scenario. I've seen some that postulate a pre homo sapiens form of humans, wiped out. I've seen some that postulate a very human like existence for millions of years for angels on earth. Some get exceedingly wacky in my opinion.

So those of us that hold to the possibility of a milder form of the gap theory need a new name for it. Any ideas?

I tend to stick with the traditional "Gap Restorational Theory."

And for the record, I do not embrace this view. We do understand that Angels existed before Man, and it could be debated as to whether they had a physical creation as we were provided one, but I see it as doubtful that they would have existed in this Creation and a catastrophe brought about the utter darkness that is seen in Genesis 1. There was no light, for example. We also see each creative stage as listed Day 1, Day 2, et cetera, said to have a morning and an evening.

But there are some great men of God who have embraced this view, so for me this is just an issue that establishes a very interesting debate between the two groups, and can be very enlightening on a number of points we might not otherwise consider.

    God bless.

Why don't you just take it from the scriptures in Isaiah!

Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

I would call it Lucifer Fallen... It is scriptural and to the point but personally I don't believe in the gap theory as it is all speculation... Brother Glen

Glen, just for clarity, I wasn't being snarky.....I read the passage in the NIV and the name "lucifer" was not present. Why is it present in the KJV but not others.....

Commentary I have read, and remembering some of my OT course work, many scholars say the passage is an indictment of certain empire ruler(s)....perhaps it might be a "duble entendre"?

I noticed that also as I am studying symbolisms comparing the OT to the NT.. A new field for me... The more I read the more excited I get... Its funny how we grab a scripture and never consider the historical content... Then try to fit it into this present age... Brother Glen

IIRC, Lucifer is a hold over from the Latin rendering of that section. For whatever reason some folks picked it up and decided it was Satan's name before he became Satan.

All depends if one feels compelled to try to force into Henesis a more mythlogocial, or at least symbolic/allegorically understand, in order to accomodate "modern scientific truths", but I do not see the need to m,ove away from rerading it in a literal intended meaning sense!

Would not see this as 'good stuff", for is he not just vasically rehasing that he holds to the genesis account being somehow less than really inspited, that it was locked into some kinf of mtth from anienct east area around it, and that we need to hold 'scientific established truth" superior to biblical account then?
