Here is how it stands at the moment.

The Republicans are homogeneous demographically, but very diverse ideologically.

The Democrats are very diverse demographically, but unified ideologically.

This is a real problem for the GOP as they continue to have huge fights within their party and alienate many with their diverse stances and infighting.

Gonna be interesting watching how this plays out the next two years.

    Unified ideologically?

The dems are a collection of special interests that put up with each other in order to get the numbers to force their own pet interest.

Do illegal Hispanic immigrants support abortion and gay marriage?

Do the LGBTG crowd really care abut funneling taxpayer dollars to failing alternative energy companies so that the dems can get their kickbacks?

Do the rabid environmentalists really care if two guys can get married?

    The OP is a joke.

In the six weeks since their repudiation in the midterms, Democrats have seen the opening of fissures within their once-disciplined ranks, marking the start of an internal struggle between now and the 2016 election over the ideological identity and tactical direction of the party.

The tension — shown in high relief during the messy final days of the congressional session — is in some ways a mirror image of the stresses within the Republican Party, which has been divided between its tea party and establishment factions in recent years.

In the case of both parties, the argument pits the more populist, purist elements of the base against the more pragmatic center.

Now the Democrats are the divided party

The liberal news media have gleefully been reporting the GOP’s political quarrels for many years. But that exaggerated story line all but vanished last week in the aftermath of the Democrats’ humiliating defeat in the midterm elections.

Democratic leaders and their rank and file were deeply divided over the budget that was worked out in a deal with House Republicans — not only among themselves, but with President Obama, too, whom they bitterly blame for their deep losses in Congress.

Democratic Party discipline has been eroding fast as a result of Obama’s growing unpopularity, but last week the Democrats were deserting him in droves. And word ran like wildfire through their ranks that from now on, it’s everyone for themselves.

Their party’s widening split wasn’t contained to Capitol Hill, either. It quickly spread to the presidential nominating battle, too, where liberals were repudiating Hillary Clinton and throwing their support to ultra-left-wing Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts. More on this in a moment.

You are trying to judge the modern Dem Party by a biblical perspective that requires you to think in consistent terms. The fight within the GOP is because most people within that party are Christians or "modernists" who believe there is something called "objective truth". The Dem party is a coalition of disjointed and sometimes contradictory interests that stick together because its members are fully indoctrinated post-moderns... becoming increasingly post-Christian.

Agreed. The premise of the OP is the myopic view of a leftist. Nothing more. Not even close to reality.

There is no difference between the two parties. They both violate the Constitution daily. Neither knows how to do their job, which is to govern this nation. They are both morally degenerate. They both support gay marriage, and regardless who is in charge, the slaughter of the unborn continues. Both parties have run up huge deficits. Both are self serving and are more concerned with the next election than serving we the people. For those who say their is a gap between the two, take a look at the gap between the two parties and the Constitution. Better yet, look at the state of the two parties and compare it to a Holy God. With those two standards, one cannot see a gap between the two parties. Crabby you might as well be a Republican as the Democratic Party that you constantly support.

    Well said!

I have always believed that Franklin Roosevelt was a political genius in melding many disparate groups into the democrat party. At one time that included the solid conservative democrat South but no longer. Republicans as a party have much more in common than do the democrats.

Listen buddy! I can take a lot from you but that last statement done did it. Crabby absolutely cannot be in the Republican Party! Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

On a serious note there is some truth to what you say. Both parties have used wars and threats of wars to enlarge the Federal government far beyond what the Constitution allows. However, take a look at what the Republican Governors are doing and contrast that to the democrat governors and the National parties! Huge difference!

...is they have been taken over by neocon fascists. Which is a similar problem the Democrats suffer from. Being taken over by progressive fascists.

Yep, that's the only "choice". Be a fascist republican or a fascist democrat.

Either way the banks, corporations and "national $ecurity $tate" wins and we lose.

So, you equate Hispanics and Blacks with perverts and baby killers?

Old cold warriors are expert in the art of demonizing and dehumanizing others.

It's how they're able to live with and defend all the death and destruction their interventionist policies and military adventures have caused over the years.

They associate themselves with the democrat party. No one forced them to do it, just paid them to do it!
