I really want to be part of my church community and larger community of Christians in my city.

How do I do this? I go to church every Sunday as Ive made it a priority. However I dont do anything else at the church largely due to working so much. Also same with my community. How do I connect with other believers in my city in real and meaningful ways with such limited time?

Unfortunately, you just need to make the time. You're not going to connect if you're not there. Find something that you're passionate about and get involved. It could be just being part of a small group that meets once a week or a ministry that you can assist in. In your community, the fire department, food pantry or other civic helps can be a great way to get to know people there!

I suppose im looking for the easy quick way. I am also bad about not wanting to do what most do. Like we have a mens softball team. I have no desire to play softball.

I need to make time on Sunday morning to not just go to service but to our small group as well.

It really makes a big difference. My husband is a pastor and there are those that we just see on Sunday morning and we love them but we just don't know them well. Even being able to have a meal together once in a while is a great way to get to know other people and even just staying for fellowship after church helps too. Seek out opportunities even if it's not a regular occurrence. If there is a work day and you can fit it in, go. Even if you don't like softball, pack a dinner and go watch the game. You will get to know people more and more as you seek out times together. :)

All true. I am very busy but should be more outgoing. I suppose I'm more OK with socializing when its on my terms.

Issue I also find is when people in small groups say what they "think/feel" about the Bible and I open the Bible and read what it says. Usually makes me seem combative.

Be gracious in how you approach it but part of being in a small group is working through what the Bible says. :) It's great to have a discussion and wrestle with the Word, see what other say, go to other Scriptures and be guided by a mature believer. I've learned a lot through study this way!

My wife has cancer and is going through chemotherapy. Yet she shares her belief with those medical personnel she meets and those who are also going through what she is going through. Our faith during this time is crucial and God always show up where you least expect him. Many times he is without the camp as we should be also. So how many have been turned to God and Christ because of her witness... We may never know!... Church is great for believers who share their belief... But God is everywhere and we all have an opportunity to share with others no matter what our circumstance!... btw believers are everywhere just as God is!... As far as church with other believers go compare scripture and rightly divide the word of truth as Timothy tells us to do.... Search the scriptures daily as the Bureans did and be open to what others have to share... I will defend the doctrine I believe in but I will not shove it down someones throat as some on here seem to do... The Calvinist board gets pretty heated to those of us who have been there!... Say what you have to say and wait on the Lord!... The waiting is the hardest thing!... The Lord says wait!... Brother Glen

    Here's my take.

You have to make it a priority to get involved. So show up at your small group. Show up when there are work days. Ask the pastor what needs to be done and then do it. Seek to use your gifts. (Remember, your work will always be there.)

Outside the church, what is your passion? Is it high school students? Then find a local Youth For Christ. Is it college students, find a local CRU. Or prison ministry? Or food bank? Or homeless shelter? Or missions? Find your passion and then get involved.

You have to start in the paths you walk in. If you are not walking in paths where you can become community, change your walk.
