Japan suffers yet another plus 8.0 earthquake today!

51 Earthquakes in Southern California in 7 days?

    http://earthquaketrack.com/v/la/recent

I say we are witnessing the birth pangs that Jesus so clearly spoke of when He was questioned as to what we could expect to see when it came close to His time to return (Matthew 24:7 and Luke 21:11).

I realize that all these things He spoke of have been manifesting ever since He spoke those words, but we do need to live as if He could return at any moment, and unfortunately the church is living more like it not imminent, but rather a long way off, still!

What say you? Are we living like His return is but a heartbeat or breath away? Or is the church looking forward to the Rapture or His second coming as it is still months or years away? Your answer to that question is paramount to the kind of witness and life He called us to live every moment of the day!

The Japan earthquake is worrisome. Tokyo's had a big one coming for a long time. But the California record is no doubt mostly microquakes, which are normal and happen all the time in earthquake prone areas--nothing indicative of fulfillment of the prophecy except generally.

    This I agree with.

    Doing my best.

Typically quakes on the "ring of fire" seem to trigger quakes at other far locations on the ring of fire. Thus California and Japan suffer a flurry of quakes.

    Christ's return is immanent.

The geologic/climatic history of the earth is catastrophic; earthquakes, volcanos, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, are a part of that history.

Yes they are, but even the scientists admit that they are happening with a greater frequency and of more intensity than ever before in history. They are studying from an evolutionary point of view, and are asking the question, Why??
We look to our Bibles and say we have the answer.
    You simply dismiss it.

My question is, is it odd that Japan had an earthquake? It's not for California. The way I read the verse is that earthquakes will be happening where they normally don't, and I would add my opinion that they will probably not have a normal, physical explanation.

Did you mean "isn't" or "is" coming soon? Spell checks often mean understanding or not understanding what the poster is saying? :BangHead:

Japan is prone to earthquakes because it lies along "the rim of fire," where the fault lines lie. However they have been picking up in frequency over the last few years.
What is more intriguing (as it says in Matthew 24: "diverse places"), are reports of earthquakes in places like Michigan.

    http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/02/us/michigan-earthquake/index.html

    http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-michigan-earthquake-20150502-story.html

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/...arthquake-felt-in-chicago-20150502-story.html
A 4.2 quake in Michigan would be felt more than a 5.8 or even greater in L.A., where earthquakes happen on a regular basis. There the ground below is all broken up by the many earthquakes of the past. The ground is also softer. The ground absorbs the earthquake.

Michigan is located on the Canadian Shield, a massive rock of shale that covers much of the northern part of the continent. The difference is like taking a hammer and hitting an anvil or hitting sand. When the hammer hist the anvil it reverberates immediately. But the sand just absorbs the shock.
Either way, the earthquake at Michigan was rare--the first one since 1947.

The one in Nepal was 7-8-8.0 was the strongest that was felt in 80 years.
They are used to earthquakes but not of that intensity.
    --Just some thoughts.

I'm back from my two ministry trips. It was great to see you the other day. Looking forward to keeping in touch with you!

When we lived in the Kanto Plain we experienced earthquakes all the time. Hokkaido, on the other hand had almost no earthquakes in Asahikawa where we lived, but more on the coast.

What do you think of this scenario?
A group of tourists went to Malaysia to climb Borneo's highest mountain, 4,095-metre-high Mount Kinabalu in eastern Sabah state on Borneo island. When the entourage reaches the top ten foreigners break away from the group, and in a different spot strip naked posing for a shot on top of the mountain (later posted on social media of course).
Even in our nation this is against the law. How much more in an Islamic nation! To add injury to insult this particular mountain is a sacred mountain to the local people of the area (non-Muslim). They believe that the indecent actions of these foreigners have angered "the mountain spirit." All of this took place on May 30, one week ago.

One week later, June 6, 2015, a 5.9 earthquake hit on that very mountain. There were 13 confirmed dead, 10 missing, and others trapped in the mountain, as huge rocks and boulders came reining down the mountain.
This earthquake is being blamed on these 10 foreigners. They are being charged in a native court for allegedly violating local native laws.
Later a special ritual needs to be conducted to "appease the mountain spirit."

Yes earthquakes are still happening. So is idolatry, and so is stupidity.

    Adam Clarke commentary:

The Fourth sign, earthquakes or popular commotions.

Earthquakes, in divers places - If we take the word σεισμοι from σειω to shake, in the first sense, then it means particularly those popular commotions and insurrections which have already been noted; and this I think to be the true meaning of the word: but if we confine it to earthquakes, there were several in those times to which our Lord refers; particularly one at Crete in the reign of Claudius, one at Smyrna, Miletus, Chios, Samos. See Grotius. One at Rome, mentioned by Tacitus; and one at Laodicea in the reign of Nero, in which the city was overthrown, as were likewise Hierapolis and Colosse. See Tacit. Annal. lib. xii. and lib. xiv. One at Campania, mentioned by Seneca; and one at Rome, in the reign of Galba, mentioned by Suetonius in the life of that emperor. Add to all these, a dreadful one in Judea, mentioned by Josephus (War, b. iv. c. 4). accompanied by a dreadful tempest, violent winds, vehement showers, and continual lightnings and thunders; which led many to believe that these things portended some uncommon calamity.

This is the term I've seen used, that Christ could come at any moment (the very next moment or one years away), rather than imminent, which implies a very short timeframe. Immanent means believers need always to be ready for His return but also need to be living for Him day by day and year by year. Imminent can be (and has been) interpreted to mean that Christ's return is so near as to make any plans for the future irrelevant.

I always took "divers" to mean "divers". As in originating below the water as opposed to land. That seems to align with the uptick in tsunamis. And most of the fault lines do tend to run underwater.

    Just a thought.

Well it is a thought, but the word means "various," or "different."

(ESV) For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.

(MKJV) For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines and pestilences and earthquakes in different places.

Since it speaks of them in multiple places, I wonder if the ones caused by fracking are a big and growing part, because they're not natural and are happening in places where it is not common to have them at the current number or intensity. Places in New York and Oklahoma (OK now has more than CA) seem to be having tons. Other states too, but they don't yet admit that fracking can trigger them.
