    I guess this is the new study Bible Rippon referred to in another thread. G.A. Riplinger is queuing up another book to attack Carson. She has a sick, deep seeded hatred for that man. Of course......his(Carson) translation views are usually correct :)

    No kidding.
    He previous work, "new age Bible versions" was a joke. She would cut and past a word here, a word there, and two more from way over there and make her own sentence. She would take a hand full of words from 6 different pages and make it look like statement by the author.

    Here is a quote from Wescott and Hort's intro....per Riplinger.
    "[R]readings of Aleph & B should be accepted as true readings(p.225)......[They] stand far above all documents(p.212)..... [are] very pure(p.220)....excellent(p.239).... And immune from corruption (p.210).

    *I added the page numbers inside her quote.

    She claims this statement was in their introduction, it was not. She cut and pasted, taking words out off context, making statements that are not there. She deliberately deceives her reader. She also claims her book is divine. Inspired by God. She states " God as author and Riplinger and secretary ". She also has done similar things to Carson. Making it look like he was an Arian, denying the deity of Christ.

    If Riplinger writes a whole book against it, then I have to get me one. It doesn't come out until August, so I may have to pre-order the new NIV Study bible so I get it as soon as it becomes available.

    My comments about her "new book" were intended as sarcasm. I should have included a " "........ Sorry for the confusion. She seems to have disappeared recently. Even her so asking engagements have dried up. I think White and others have proved her wrong in so many ways, that she will stay under her rock.

    I will most likely buy this when it comes out. I don't have a NIV2011 of my own(I do read my son's copy to him). I look for the names off the note contributors, but cannot locate the names.

    Her being against it must mean that it will be wirth buying!

    Too bad that Zondervan, as far as I know, stopped the Nasb Study bible, as that one had Nasb version with Niv study bible notes...

    It appears all Calvinists will love these study notes, non-Cals not so much. For example, foreknew means chosen beforehand. Note the total lack of lexiconal support for this rewrite.

    GK 4589/ S4267 "foreknew": " to know before hand, to be previously with, to determine beforehand, to foreordain." -Mounce's Dictionary

    Who does he foreknow? Those he predestined.

    Biblically usage to "know" often implies an intimate relationship. We do know who God doesn't "know", Matt. 7:23 provides that. Christ does not know these men. He never knew them. So who was foreknown? Ephesians 1:4-5: the ones he predestined and chose before the foundation of the world. In order to be chosen before the foundation of the world, they would have to known by God.

    I see nothing wrong with the commentary the Bible nots give. The could give more detail regarding "foreknew", but I don't think the are off on their interpretation.

    Yes, you can find Calvinist sources to support Calvinist doctrine.

    But lets set that aside and read Romans 8:28-29. Lets start with the first description of those in view, "to them who are called according to His purpose." Thus we start with those who have been called out, the born anew believers of the church. Now what do we learn about God's treatment of them?

    1) God's purpose from before creation was to call out a people for His own possession.
    2) Those He foreknew (corporately) He also predestined to be conformed to the image of Christ. Thus once a person is placed in Christ, they are predestined to be conformed to the image of Christ according to God's purpose and plan from before creation.
    3) God impliments His plan as follows,
    He calls those who love God,
    God justifies them - the circumcision of Christ
    God glorifies them, not referring to our future resurrection in glorified bodies, but our spiritual rebirth as children of God.

    Those whom he foreknew he also predestined to conformed to the image of his son. How are we conformed to the image of his Son? It started with sanctification and ends with our glorification. Paul speaks of glorification as being completed in v.29 since God will certainly finish the work he started.

    God predestined those to be conformed to the image of his Son. Those who will have resurrection bodies(glorified). With word usage of Kai and hous(cumulative and accusative) throughout v. 28-29, we know that if you are one of the descriptive words, you are all of them. If you are foreknown, you will be glorified. Only those foreknown will be glorified.

    *I will add, those who in the end, are not glorified and will face condemnation, were never known.

    Matt 7: 22-23; "On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ "

    He never knew them as he did those he glorifies in Romans 8.

    1) It says glorified, past tense. To say what that means is will be glorified is to nullify scripture.

    2) The issue is not that we will be glorified when we are raised in glorified bodies, the issue is that we have been glorified.

    3) Biblically when God "foreknows" something he is implementing a prior plan formulated in the past.

    1. The English is past tense. The Greek is Aorist. It with out tense.

    2. Disagree based upon the Aorist tense of edoxasen(glorified). S1392; *VF3SAIA verb structure.

    3. Obviously disagree per my previous post.

    *VF= verb finite
    3. = 3rd person
    S. = singular
    A= Aorist
    I = indicative
    A= active

    How do they spin NuNIV's clarification at Romans 3:24?

    Old New International Version:
    Romans 3:24 "and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus."

    Nu New International Version:
    Romans 3:24 "and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus."

    And do they backtrack NuNIV's declaration that Phoebe was a deacon?(Romans 16:1)

    Regarding your question on Romans 16:1. Who is "they " you are asking about? The translators? The members here? I don't agree with the translation there for deacon. Maybe Rippon will come and defend the NIV 2011. I will not.

    Alright, I understand what you are saying. For clarification the Study Bible didn't annotate the verse. It is part of the NIV2011 update. All 2011 NIV Bibles will say that.
