False teacher Tony Campolo announced on Monday that he has decided to endorse and speak out for the inclusion of open homosexuals in the Body of Christ.

“It has taken countless hours of prayer, study, conversation and emotional turmoil to bring me to the place where I am finally ready to call for the full acceptance of Christian gay couples into the Church,” he wrote in a statement posted to his website.

As previously reported, Campolo serves as one of the leaders at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in West Philadelphia, which is part of the National Baptist Convention USA and American Baptist Churches USA. In the 1990’s, he served as a spiritual adviser to then-President Bill Clinton, including during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

Campolo’s wife, Peggy, is a homosexual activist and believes that the Church should be accepting of same-sex “marriage.” He explained on Monday that his wife is one of the reasons why he has decided to endorse acceptance of homosexuals in Christianity.

“Because of my open concern for social justice, in recent years I have been asked the same question over and over again: Are you ready to fully accept into the Church those gay Christian couples who have made a lifetime commitment to one another?” Campolo outlined. “One reason I am changing my position on this issue is that, through Peggy, I have come to know so many gay Christian couples whose relationships work in much the same way as our own.”

Tony believes "sexual orientation is almost never a choice." Once this, they were born this way, view is accepted, then to exclude them is the same as excluding blacks or short people - they are not responsible for their actions.

Note the article speaks of "homosexuality" rather than homosexual behavior. People are "gay" rather than unrepentant sinners. The teachings of scripture have been nullified, it does not mean what it says.

And I still agree that one doesn't just one day wake up and say "Hey, I'm going to look at my same gender sexually and enjoy it!" Instead, I do believe that some of us have a "bent" towards particular sins - but that doesn't mean that they are not still sin and we must crucify that sin. In my family, alcoholism runs rampant. That doesn't mean we can say "Yeah!! I'm a drunk by birth so I'm going to celebrate and embrace it!".

I've said this before but Matt Moore has some amazing thoughts on this matter as a young man with same sex attraction but who came to saving faith in Christ a few years ago. He doesn't choose his attraction but he chooses his actions and knows to give Christ his attraction.

Does Scripture say that attraction is a sin?

None at all. First we have Joel Osteen rebuking John, Paul and Peter for their teaching against such acts, now Campolo! We are seeing ears tickled all over the place!

And what is a wrong attraction? Does Scripture SAY this?

For much like in the Smoking thread, I don't think we should be making attraction into a sin anymore than we should be making smoking into a sin if God's word doesn't say that.

Mat_5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

That's the sin of lust. That's not attraction.

I thought we were in agreement. But then she said a wrong attraction. I understood and agreed with what she was saying until then because I wasn't clear on what she meant by "a wrong attraction".

I think there's a difference between just being attracted to someone and lusting.

The key to me is: are we entertaining that attraction? Also, if we know that an attraction is not right, do we work to stop it? I am married and have been happily married for 30 years. Now let's say there is some guy that I find attractive. I can find him attractive and then walk away from that but if I begin to focus on him or seek to see him again to take a look at him or anything like that, then we are now crossing the line into sin. I also do think that we can begin to overcome a wrong attraction we have by replacing it with Christ.
