H.L. Mencken 1880-1956 - Wow, how about this??? Was a 94-year-old prophecy is fulfilled.
Mencken (born 1880 - died 1956) was a journalist, satirist, critic and registered Democrat. Mencken wrote the editorial below while working for the Baltimore Evening Sun, which appeared in the July 26,1920 edition.

"As democracy is perfected, the office of the President represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people.

On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be occupied by a downright fool and complete narcissistic moron."

    - H.L. Mencken, the Baltimore Evening Sun, July 26, 1920

So it was written, and so it has come to pass... :tear:

Was this man just lucky in describing the downward spiral of politics that have led us to Obama? Or, was he prophetic?

    What say you?

    Why the repetition?
First of all, if you're speaking biblically, H.L.M. was not a prophet. He was even a false prophet. He never claimed to speak for God. He was an atheist. If you want to give it a secular meaning he still may not qualify. Why? Because he wasn't just referring to a future President --but the people of the land. "The office of the President represents more and more closely the inner soul of the people." So do you think that the public as a whole consists of downright fools and complete narcissistic morons?

    I'm not a plurality;I'm a singular individual.

Address what I said. Your H.L.M "prophecy" was two-pronged. His words apply not only to a future occupant of the White House but that the qualities of said President would mirror that of the populace.

I had asked you twice to address my points. You have refused. Why do you go to the trouble of making a thread then run away when specifics are asked of you?

Arguing with you ends the same way, so why bother. I am much more in tune then you will ever be. So find another hill to die, on this one is not worth it.

The comma belongs after the preposition.

You did not deal with my posts #2 and #4. You make threads without dealing with the consequences. If you run away and evade specifics then don't make threads in the first place. You derail your own threads.

The Dude isn't looking to debate or discuss anything. When he says "What say you?", he only wants people to reply in the affirmative and bolster up his frail ego.

Closing this as it has become yet another petty spat.
