"Salt is good," Mark 9:50 and Luke 14:34.

Jesus Christ, our Savior and Creator of the whole universe (John 1:3) made this statement, so obviously He is correct.

That being said, why then do many physicians and/or so-called "health experts" warn us that salt (and/or sodium) may not be "good"?

IMHO, one of the two "parties" has to be right, and then, by default, the other "party" must then be wrong.

    Which is it?

False dilemma. Salt is a vital nutrient (especially among populations dependent on cereal grains); it essential as a preservative before the days of canning and refrigeration; and it makes food taste better.

The problem with salt -- as it is with sugar -- is that industrial methods have made it cheap and ubiquitous. In ancient times salt was rare and expensive; it was usually a monopoly and heavily taxed. Now it's cheap and used extensively to make processed foods more palatable, which is where we get most of our salt.

The same is true of sugar. Before the establishment of the sugar plantations in the West Indies, sweeteners were expensive and hard to get; you can imagine how much a Coke would cost if you had to use honey instead of cheap sugar to make it.
