Bad idea. The identity of the church should be the HEAD of the Church. We should continue to make much of Jesus and what HE did on the Cross. We should be recognized for HIM, not a flag.

And why on earth did it take a SCOTUS ruling for a church to think to do something like this?

Why weren't CHURCHES putting the Cross at the top of their flagpoles anyhow? Now it kinda looks like a publicity stunt that may become something of a fad.

Flag etiquette is a pretty big thing in the US and most folks know that you're not supposed to fly another flag above the US flag. It makes the church look kinda anti-authority if we haven't already been displaying a "Christian" flag in such a manner.

If we want to make a point, let it be the point of pointing more folks to Christ. I think this type of thing might have the opposite effect.

I've got to be honest, I'm not all that fired up about the Christian flag.

To be honest, I never quite got the point.

Now, if it was in a place like Dearbornistan, in Michigan, and we were doing it to piss off the Muslims and the liberals, then I'd be all for it.

But as it is, I believe the state flag should fly above the American flag, as the states are sovereign and gave birth to the Republic, not the other way around.

And I'm all for flying the Confederate flag in Southern States.

I have always wondered about the order in service. Most churches I've attended have both the American and Christian flags on stage or up front with the American flag on the audience's left (if facing the front). That is, the American flag is displayed on the right (the flag's right) of the Christian flag (which is appropriate US procedure, showing the nations flag "above" that of the Christian flag). The reason I always questioned this is the meaning and symbolism not only of the flags but also of the ordering. The symbolism of the flags are the nation and the Church. The symbolism of the ordering is one of honor (the flag's right is a place of honor....that is why the host nation's flag is always on the right). Essentially, the symbolism is a recognition of both the Church and the nation with the Church honoring the nation. I don't care so much as to "make a fuss," but I always thought it curious.

There's no Christian flag. If you want to put up a Cross, then put up a Cross. But there is no Christian flag in the Bible so ain't no need to fly one.
I understand this sentiment too. But...

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Rom. 12:18

    Ungh ungh.
You're all for flying the Battle Flag of the Army of North Virginia that was adopted by the KKK and white supremacists to voice their opposition to integration.

Ain't too many people flying the ACTUAL Confederate flag which speaks to why it's not a heritage thing.

The two flags should never be flown together or put on the same stage. There is an appropriate place for each, but not together.

It's rather backwards. But if churches were serious about it, they could have placed the CRoss above the US flag a long time ago.

Not a flag with a cross on it, but the actual Cross as a finial atop the flagpole.

Sure there is. Flags are symbols. I somewhat like the idea of the Christian flag above (or on the flag's right) the US flag. It kinda puts things in perspective (too often churches slip into politics, maybe this would be a reminder). Anyway, you are right that we don't need a flag....but it is a Christian flag for those who use it.

Here's something that may be somewhat off topic from the OP, but I'll ask it anyway.

A Christian school uses its sponsoring church's physical plant during the week, i.e., the church's SS rooms are used as classrooms M-F.

Outside the building are three flagpoles. On one is the state flag. On the center flagpole (which is also the tallest flagpole) flies "Old Glory." On the flagpole to the right is this so-called "Christian" flag [basically white but in the upper left hand corner it's blue with a red cross-like symbol in the center of the blue area].

Okay, would it be "proper" to fly the POW-MIA flag underneath the "Stars and Stripes" on the center flag pole?

Yes, I know there's no "book, chapter & verse" in God's Word that specifically states the "scriptural" way to display any flags either outside or inside a church building [Mainly because "NT church buildings" themselves aren't mentioned in the Bible. {I guess to some folks that would mean that NT church buildings are therefore "UNSCRIPTURAL," right??}]

Anyway, what are your thoughts/views/opinions on this?

Oh I know. I was just saying that we weren't given a flag in the Bible so we obviously didn't need one.

It just kinda reminded me of the Book of Samuel. And the people wanting a king because everyone else had a king.

Salty, even there only the Christian flag should be shown.

It would be better if no flag were shown and only the cross.

Yes, according to Flag etiquette. As long as it is below the US flag and not touching, I believe flag etiquette says it's okay.

Flags outside, American and Christian, no flags in the sanctuary. Instead there is a beautiful scene of the empty tomb with stained glass. Political points with Christian symbols seems like a bad idea to me.

Years ago I read a book on the lessons of history. The author made a strong argument on why the national flag should never be placed alongside the Christian flag. One represents Caesar, the world, war, the secular. The other represents God, the spiritual, all the is good.

Putting the two together is a poor witness to the world of what Christians stand for and misrepresent Christ.

And what exactly does this accomplish?

Our task is to preach the gospel, not make statements about the flag.

For crying out loud. Talk about conservatives being against things. Good grief someone take the Christian flag and puts it over the American flag signifying honoring God first and somehow that is wrong? really?

Maybe people can take it for what it was meant to be rather than what you can twist it to be. People need to get over themselves.

I'm seriously thinking about taking my U.S. Flag down and raising the Christian Flag. I have a flag in my front yard, claiming loyalty to my Country. Nothing in my front yard shows my loyalty to God. Seems backwards when I think about it.

    Hollow actions IMO.

You want to make a statement lead your neighbor to Christ.

Show that Christ/God is first in your life through that, rather than how or where you display your flag.
