So far, we've heard from the "junior varsity". To hear the pundits, Carly Fiorina looks to move up into the varsity level.

I have liked her all along. And she seems to have made a ripple in the pond. I think she looks good to move up in the polls.

    who won tonight's debate?

Ok. It is finally here, and all the hoopla has come and gone, and now all that's left is for the political analysts and pundits to dissect every word and offer an opinion about who made a good impression, and who did nothing to further their cause for being considered by the GOP for the coveted prize of GOP presidential candidate for 2016.

So who won? Who lost? And who will stick around for round two, three, four .......?

    • So far, it's more of a matter of who is the best to take on the Dems.
    • Dr. Carson disappointed me. Not so much on what he said but on how he said it. I was expecting a conservative Black man with the voice of James Earl Jones.
    • The Donald is another disappointment. I'm afraid he's going to be a re-run of Ross Perot. Run as a third party candidate and throw the election to the Dems. He came off to me as "the divine Donald."
    More later.

FYI, I'm not allowing this thread to rabbit trail into conspiracies.

There is a way to stop third party runs. Get rid of the failed leadership of Boehner and McConnel who are only rhinos. So long as the establishment is allowed to protect their cush little lives on the backs of Americans then a third party is a real possibility. It is in their hands and it is their issue to deal with not Trump. He may only do what is needed.

You posted this 16 minutes into the prime time debate. Maybe we should wait until it is over.
I'm watching it right now. There's still 40 minutes remaining but I'd say Ted Cruz has scored the most points, then Christie.

I am not convinced that this is not the DNC's Plan, with the Trumpettes playing into its hand.

Didn't watch. Ted Cruz already has my vote. He's emerging as a true statesman.

Trump is using the threat of running as a third party as "leverage" (his words). Last night he also sated several times that there were certain issues that they were all now talking about only because he made them a serious point of discussion (such as a real solution to illegal immigration and the problems associated with it) because of him.

I do not believe he will actually run third party. I also do not believe he thinks he will actually get elected. He believes he is making certain topics central issues through his showmanship.

    He is not wrong.

I didn't watch anything about it except for the summaries the national news networks fed to their respective Nashville stations.

I was more interested in the local races here in Metro Nashville.

As predicted, there'll be a runoff election to decide who'll succeed current mayor Karl Dean.

The mayor's office is technically non-partisan. Nashville isn't known for being a heavily populated GOP stronghold. I can't recall if Nashville ever had a GOP mayor since the city & the surrounding Davidson County merged back in the 1960's.

Mayor Dean is a registered Democrat, but he's kept his partisan leanings pretty much to himself during his 8 years as mayor.

FWIW, he stood with the leaders of my church & the administrators of my church's Christian school when we formally dedicated to the Lord the brand new K 4-5 facility that God gave us (via the TV program "Extreme Home Makeover" people & other associated local & regional company sponsors) after our Preschool & Kindergarten facilities were destroyed in the May, 2010, flood that devastated much of Nashville (& in which close to 50 people died in the middle TN region).

Mayor Dean didn't say much himself (Imagine a politician doing that when most of the local TV news media was present!), but we appreciated him taking time from his schedule during the hectic post-flood period 5 years ago.

He was one of the few Democrats for which I voted--twice.

Most of northern middle TN's GOP base is found in/around neighboring Williamson Cty. Historically, this county, which is located immediately to the south & southwest of Nashville. It's also per capita the wealthiest county in TN.

Getting back to the Metro mayor's race, as predicted, there'll be a runoff election pitting the top 2 vote getters [neither of which got more than 24% of the total vote since there were 7 total candidates]. Ironically, the top two candidates are philosophically miles apart, even though they are both mutual friends.

None of the 5 Metro city council-at-large candidates (out of a total of 26) for which I voted won in that race, & neither did my choice for Metro vice mayor.

OTOH, all 3 amendments to the Metro city charter won in their respective pollings. I against 2 of them & for 1 of them--& that's also how the final tally's came out on all 3 of the voting.

Finally, the incumbent candidate for city council in my district won also won. Metro Nashville has a total of 35 city council districts.

Personally, I don't think that much changed. I lean toward Cruz but Trump is very popular because of his plans !. Close the border once and for all; 2. Bring home American jobs; and 3. Make America great again.

    Many Democrats favor Trump's plans.

I recorded the debates, watching them now. Pre-debate: Paul, Rubio, Huckabee and Cruz are my favorites.

Immediately into the debate, Trump proves he is there to hurt the conservatives chances at the White House.

When asked about the war on women....Trump takes a cheap shot at the female moderator. Not the smartest move.

Huckabee seems to be ignored in the first half of the debate

*never mind Huckabee got what believe was his 2nd question an hour into the debate. If he had others, I was out of the room. Bush and Trump seem to be getting all the action.

I watched part of the happy hour and all of the second round.

Right now, I'm for either a Rubio/Fiorina ticket or a Bush/Fiorina ticket. Maybe Cruz.

Funny, that's pretty much where I stood BEFORE last night.

No one else I saw last night will make it.

Trump is a lunatic who says things that possibly have elements of truth to them, but he says them like a fake wrestler in those WWF television matches. I don't trust him at all. There's something about him that has the hair on the back of my neck standing up.

Yes, conservatives are very angry and that's why his rhetoric is causing him to be higher in the polls, but talk is cheap.

Huckabee is getting more talk time during the second half of the debate. I think he is doing very well. Paul seems to be forgotten. Bush is doing well, but nothing that will make him stand out.
