As of February 15, only a month and a half into 2015, there has been at least 136 individuals killed by police in the United States since the first of the year.

The frighteningly high number averages out to three killed per day, or someone killed every eight hours. While there is no government-run database, Killed By Police has taken it upon themselves to keep track, and are doing a fantastic job thus far.

Just to put things into perspective, let’s take a look at the rates at which police in other countries kill their citizens.

Let’s look at our immediate neighbors to the north, Canada. The total number of citizens killed by law enforcement officers in the year 2014, was 14; that is 78 times less people than the US.

If we look at the United Kingdom, 1 person was killed by police in 2014 and 0 in 2013. English police reportedly fired guns a total of three times in all of 2013, with zero reported fatalities.

From 2010 through 2014, there were four fatal police shootings in England, which has a population of about 52 million. By contrast, Albuquerque, N.M., with a population 1 percent the size of England’s, had 26 fatal police shootings in that same time period.

China, whose population is 4 and 1/2 times the size of the United States, recorded 12 killings by law enforcement officers in 2014.

Let that sink in. Law enforcement in the US killed 92 times more people than a country with nearly 1.4 billion people.

    It doesn’t stop there.

A boy asked this officer, who was taking a routine vandalism report at an elementary school, if he was a cop, because his mother told him a cop would always help him when he needed it. When the cop replied, yes, I am a cop, the boy asked him to help tie his shoe.

By the numbers: US police kill more in days than other countries do in years

It’s rather difficult to compare data from different time periods, according to different methodologies, across different parts of the world, and still come to definitive conclusions.

But now that we have built The Counted, a definitive record of people killed by police in the US this year, at least there is some accountability in America – even if data from the rest of the world is still catching up.

It is undeniable that police in the US often contend with much more violent situations and more heavily armed individuals than police in other developed democratic societies. Still, looking at our data for the US against admittedly less reliable information on police killings elsewhere paints a dramatic portrait, and one that resonates with protests that have gone global since a killing last year in Ferguson, Missouri: the US is not just some outlier in terms of police violence when compared with countries of similar economic and political standing.

America is the outlier – and this is what a crisis looks like.

If more parents taught their children to respect the police; as well as society - there would be far fewer citizens being killed by police.

Rule # 1 - simply do what the police request.
Rule # 2 if there is a problem - tell your laywer

    That's classic.

"If you don't want your children to be killed by police then teach your children to be better slaves."

There is a small group of people that have little respect for any laws, and it is clear they use the deaths of loved ones to protest, riot and make easy settlement cash in the deaths of those who would not be dead had they obeyed the laws of a civil people and society. This side of society is truly despicable. :tear:

And that is truly uncalled for. I would think you'd be better than that brother. Slavery ended years ago, but apparently you have not read the news. Did you fail your Civic course in school?

    You're joking right?

    He said nothing about race.

He made an observation based on the evidence at hand so how in the world is that "predudice"?

    Please explain . . .

You brought race into my friend, when you made the "slave" reference. Is that enough explanation?

What's uncalled for is your sanctimonious psycho babel.

It's plain that you can't refute the facts and evidence being presented so you feel compelled to go after me instead. That's kind of a cowardly underhanded tactic IMHO.

Deal with the facts and evidence. Leave "personalities" out of it for once.

 That's unreal. I bet you can read volumes into two words.

First. You were accusing plain_n_simple of being biased and racially prejudiced. SEE THIS . . . http://www.baptistboard.com/showpost.php?p=2249772&postcount=11

Second. I asked you to explain what you found in his words to be biased and racially prejudiced.

Third. You went after me instead of explaining what I asked you to explain.

Apparently you need more coffee to clear the grogginess. I know your first impulse is to shoot the messenger but you should try to be awake enough to tell which messenger your shooting at.

You list all the problems with the data, differences in culture, etc. and say it is difficult to reach difinitive conclusions...

And then you give your definitive conclusion?
