    .....We don’t train near adequately enough — or sometimes even in the right ways — but we rarely use force. The F.B.I. looks at use of force from many perspectives and the statistics are available to prove that in the majority of the cases where force would be an option, officers now avoid it. But as Mark Twain said, "There are three kinds of lies -- lies, damned lies, and statistics." F.B.I. stats won’t sway the naysayers, but officer use of force is definitely infrequent.

    What is up however, is viewing videos of actual police incidents by the general public. These videos, after years of watching Law & Order, NCIS and T.J. Hooker reruns, present quite a contrast to expectations and skewed paradigms. Reality often isn’t as pretty or neat as Hollywood would imply.

    So cops become cartoons, not people. Too many, we are buffoons and thugs and racists, and anyone can confirm these biases with simple Google searches that create worlds that don’t exist.

    But living in the cop world for over 30 years has proved to me unequivocally that the vast majority of those in law enforcement are honorable. Almost all of them got into this profession because they wanted to help people. They live in the world that everyone else avoids — a world of mayhem, tragedy, senseless violence and unspeakable uncaring by segments of the wider society.

    The worst part about this is how many of these victims were unarmed. As of June 1, 2015, 102 people killed by police were unarmed. We can add more to this number, including the killing of Zachary Hammond who was shot through a car window over a bag of marijuana.

    "Car going 11 mph was a threat. Two Denver officers killed Jessica Hernandez, 17, when they open fired on the car full of teenagers. Police claim Hernandez struck an officer with the car, but this is disputed by a passenger who said the car struck the officer after Hernandez was shot. The car traveled no more than 11 miles per hour over a distance of 16 feet."
    This is disgusting, no wonder people are filming cops, it's the only protection they have!

    Police Let Judge Off With No Arrest After He Admitted to Leaving 2-yo Son in Car Until He Died

    According to reports, Naramore was never arrested, and the police are conducting an investigation. The lack of arrest comes in spite of the fact that Naramore admitted to leaving his son in the car for four hours; a confession to a minimum of negligent homicide.

    The family is certainly in a lot of distress and are grief stricken. However, the failure by the Hot Springs police to make an arrest in this situation shows an appalling level of special treatment for Naramore, likely because of his judge status.

    Last March, the same police department who failed to arrest Naramore, responded a report of a child left in a vehicle. The mother, Mandy Wilson, of North Little Rock was immediately arrested and charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.

    In Ridgefield, Connecticut, an arrest warrant was issued for Kyle Seitz, who left his son in a car for several hours while he was at work last November.

    In April, a Florida couple left their child in their car for 39 minutes. Upon returning to their vehicle, police immediately arrested both Lakisha Green and Carl Merrickes, Jr., who were charged with child neglect.

    In June, Wilbert Leon Carter, 31, was arrested and charged with murder after leaving his 2-year-old child the car until she died.

    Last week in Arizona, Mikayla Peer, a 20-year-old mother, left her 2-year-old in the car of a Walmart parking lot. Peer was immediately arrested and booked into the Maricopa County 4th Avenue Jail.

    Since January we've had 704 people killed by the police this year.

    That number is already higher than last year which was 622 for the entire year.

    There are more shootings. The empirical data proves this out.

    People like Zachary Hammond (19) who was sitting in his car when he was shot twice in the back by an officer on suspicion that 10 grams of marijuana were possessed by the person in the passenger seat.

    We have a massive problem with violence and police violence.

    And we also no that violence is higher this year due to the community organizers stiring the pot in areas like Baltimore. Context is king

    If you think that you won't have a few bad actors out of a million law enforcement personnel, you're living in a dream world.

    Perfection will never happen.

    Lapses in split second judgement will never go away.

    Cops are people , too.

    Deal with it.

    Bad actor cops should be prosecuted just like everyone else and not given special treatment because they have a badge.

    Accountability is what I'm asking for not perfection.

    No it won't but that's not even an issue in most cases. It wasn't an issue in the beating death of Thomas Kelly, it wasn't an issue when James Boyd was killed.

    Cops aren't just people. They're people who are given authority over others. This authority isn't to be taken lightly and people who are entrusted with it should be held to the highest standards of ethics and accountability.

    They shouldn't have "cheering sections" that make up excuses as to why they should be treated differently than other citizens

    We all have to deal with it. Some of us deal with by pointing out the fact that there is a problem and try to open a debate about it. Other people deal with it by closing their eyes, making excuses and trying to shut any debate down.

    If the vast majority are so honorable, why don't they ever stop the dishonorable ones? All I've ever seen is that blue line and one protecting the other.

    The system is structured to make cops dishonorable if something happens. They are counseled to follow a script that doesn't care anything about honor.

    The evidence stretches from one case to another. All you have to do is look at the cases and see the number of times after consulting with the Policeman's union attorney how miraculously the dead person was usually purported "to be reaching for something" or how the officers are counseled to say that they "feared for their lives".

    You KNOW there's a script. Just as you know there is a script they use to train officers what to say to be heard on camera even when you can't see on camera what they are doing.

    You haven't yet. Every case is different.

    Try treating it that way. Then take into account the statistics. You're cherry picking, just like all other cop haters and race baiters.

    A car going at ten miles an hour can still severely injury, mame or kill a person! Of you don't believe me, go stand in front of a car moving at that rate of speed and let it hit you! Then come back and tell me that it was not being used as a weapon?

    AS for the witnesses. The gentle giant of Ferguson had a witness, and we all know how honest he was.

    Have you never been around a person that broke the law, and they say they didn't? look at the illegals, Jimmy Carter says theirs was not a criminal act, but rather an "act of love!"

    Get real! I spent years chasing down child moloester and abusers, not one ever admitted they did what we proved they did! They were always innocent, and that is how their family, friends and neighbors saw them too! :smilewinkgrin:

    Although the CPD denies any wrongdoing, the department has a history of torturing suspects in order to obtain false confessions. Between 1972 and 1991, Chicago Police Commander Jon Burge and his men tortured hundreds of people to extract forced confessions from them. Convicted of perjury in 2010, Burge only spent four years in prison due to the fact that the statute of limitations prevents prosecutors from charging him and his fellow officers with multiple counts of torture.     Chicago's Secret Homan Square Detention Facility Way Worse Than Anyone Thought

    Back in February, we brought you the delightful news that the Chicago police department was rather broadly known to be operating what was essentially a CIA-style black site within the neighborhood of Homan Square. This facility, located in a rough West Side neighborhood of the city, featured such practices as off-the-books detention, lawyer-less interrogations, and the occasional fatality. This place, where detainees would disappear for hours or days, seemed to be a vacuum of civil liberties and instead operated under the theory that Chicago police were rulers over all, and were owed whatever they demanded. The original Guardian link detailed a number of witness stories from those who had been detained at Homan Square, but very little information was available about exactly how widely the facility was being used.

    Thanks to the Guardian's FOIA efforts, however, we have some clarity on how much Homan Square is used and how the police detain people there, and, well, it's extremely chilling to anyone with a modicum of interest in civil liberties.
