Does your church promote books?

Just for fun looking at various 9 Marks churches. I see that some are big on promoting books and trying to get their congregation to read. I think this is a good idea, however others do not have this strategy (at least on their website). What of your church? NOTE- books are secondary to scripture and I know of no church that would promote them above scripture.

We don't promote books as such, but I will often mention a good book from the pulpit.

Occasionally, our pastor while 100% of the time preaching from a Bible text, will insert a quote or two from a book he is currently reading that goes along with his sermon. As for as promoting an entire book, he has only done it a couple of times.

9 Marks is just another formula. It's like teaching on effective prayers: "If your prayer isn't just so . . . "

There is no formula. There is faith. Ministers only need to point the eyes of God's heritage to Christ with the Scriptures through faith.

Promote books? Of the making of many books, there is no end. It's vanity.

I think many churches either have a book store or a lending library. We had a Pastor that would lend his own books from his personal library to those seeking a better understanding of God's word.

Another Pastor taught "bible study" classes where several books, i.e. English dictionary, Bible dictionary, Exhaustive Concordance, etc. were needed to participate in the class. Several books in each category were listed, because he was not teaching doctrine but method of study so we could develop our own understanding of biblical doctrine.
