92-year-old woman kicked out of church for not tithing:

    BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) -
A 92-year-old woman is no longer allowed to worship at the church where she was a member for more than 50 years because she was not tithing.

Josephine King said that was the reason she was kicked out of Bainbridge's First African Baptist Church.

“Josephine King is no longer considered a member of the First African Baptist Church of Bainbridge, Georgia,” read Gerald Simmons, as he skimmed over the letter addressed to his aunt.

Ms. King was considered sick and a shut-in for several months, which was the reason for her lack of attendance.

    Kicked out for not tithing??

I don't know how her church calculates what her tithe is, but to be accurate in calculating one's tithe, you'd have to know exactly what a person's income is--which IMHO isn't the business of any church--no more than my knowing what any other church member's income is!

How is her church able to calculate her exact total income? Does her church require each member to report his/her exact total income--including what he/she is remunerated in cash?

I certainly would want to be a member of that church, and I doubt if any of you on BB would want to join a church that requires its members to give it a penny-by-penny accounting of every source of a member's total income.

Talk about a demanding church standard! :tear:

Just crazy. But I've heard some crazy stuff about some churches here in Georgia.

There used to be rumors about a certain fella, who "needs" a new aeroplane to fly himself around church, ...something about them requiring W2s when you joined.

Now I'm HOPING that type of stuff doesn't really happen in churches, but I've seen some bat CRAZY stuff in churches here in Georgia.

This story sounds similar to another thread that appeared here a month or two ago.

These types of things show what the priority of the particular church is. My opinion only.

The first 1:20 of this video should tell you all you need to know about the "aeroplane-needing "preacher."

Yes, although it can sometimes be a mistake, such as a church treasurer or secretary taking an unauthorized action. But for sure some pastors and churches have different priorities.

Please explain what you mean by an unauthorized action by a Treasurer or Secretary. I am not sure that I understand. To my mind, neither should have the authority to cause another to lose membership.

It does occasionally happen that letters go out which the pastor(s) might not approve of. A friend of mine received a letter critical of some deacons. When my friend checked with one of the pastors, it became clear that the letter should not have been sent out. Sometimes people take authority upon themselves to which they are not entitled.
