The hackers who claimed to have stolen every bit of data from Ashley Madison, a dating website intended for adulterers, have made good on their promise to release the full database if the site didn’t shut down.

Identifying themselves as Impact Team, the hackers have made available a frighteningly vast amount of data on Ashley Madison’s users and inner workings. Impact Team produced the information Tuesday, August 18, through the Tor network, a sort of parallel internet or “dark web” that keeps all traffic data anonymous.

The breach contains data on 32 million Ashley Madison users, including names, usernames, addresses, phone numbers, and birth dates. The data also include users’ descriptions of themselves, often revealing their intentions in using the site—things like “I May Be Spoken 4 But I Speak 4 Myself” and “Let’s start as friends…”

It also reveals several million individual credit card transactions that went to Ashley Madison. Each of these indicates the name of the person involved, their address, the last four digits of their credit card number, and the amount paid, among other information.

Mixed feelings on this one. Obviously the hackers performed an illegal act by stealing the information from Ashley-Madison. But....releasing the names of people actively looking to commit the sin of adultery is....somehow....judicial?

    What say you?

Everything about it was wrong. At this point, the only motivation for what happened is "because I can."

A story without a good guy.

It is outrageous that the information was disclosed. Nobody should cheer this. Blackmail over an interstate wire is a federal crime. The information was gained illegally.

But it does show God means business when he says "your sins will find you out".

Because my bet is, there are some saved people on that list, and some Christian marriages will be affected.

Hundreds of Obama Admin Employees Had Adultery Accounts

WASHINGTON — Following the massive data dump of the spouse-cheating website Ashley Madison, it has been learned that hundreds of employees with the Obama administration had paid accounts with the site and used their federal offices to access it.

The Associated Press (AP) outlines that it has traced hundreds of the 37 million Ashley Madison users back to the White House, Congress, Pentagon, Department of State, Department of the Treasury and over 20 other governmental departments.

“They included at least two assistant U.S. attorneys; an information technology administrator in the Executive Office of the President; a division chief, an investigator and a trial attorney in the Justice Department; a government hacker at the Homeland Security Department and another DHS employee who indicated he worked on a U.S. counter-terrorism response team,” it reports.

The AP is not releasing names “because they are not elected officials or accused of a crime.”

Not sure what the point of this is. I'm 100% certain that no matter who the President happened to be at the moment, you could drop their name in there. You could also substitute "Obama administration" with any Fortune 500 company.

Didn't Josh Dugger's name come out as being a client?

Did you read the whole article? For brevity's sake I did not quote this part:

U.S. News and World Report outlines that in May, the District of Columbia had more Ashley Madison users per capita than any city in America. Approximately 15,000 email addresses connected with the site end with .gov or .mil. Over 6,700 were enlisted in the Army, 1,600 in the Navy and 800 in the Marines.

The District of Columbia leads the nation in percent of registrations at this site. That's the point. So your point about any Fortune 500 company would have comparable registrations is flawed.

Yes, and I am surprised it took this long before it was mentioned on the site.

I think it's great. There were definitely good guys vs bad guys. The good ones are those who exposed the bad ones.
There are lots of illegal things. That does not make them wrong, just as there are many things that are legal, yet wrong.

"It turns out that there are far more .edu email addresses than there are .gov or .mil. Inside Higher Ed's IT team downloaded the database hackers have posted and found 74,468 unique email addresses (from among the 83,863 .edu addresses over all, with thousands having registered more than once)."

Those overpaid university professors and administrators must have too much time on their hands.

You know up until reading this thread, I had no idea what Ashley Madison was. A site to promote people committing adultery? YUCK!!!

Right up there again with Planned Parenthood.
