The latest report from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has determined that globally, July was the hottest month since record keeping began in 1880.

Global temperatures were 1.46 degrees F warmer than the 20th century average in July, and were 1.53 degrees F above average for the year to date (Jan. - July).

"Much of the globe was at record or near record for the month," Jake Crouch, a climate scientist at NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information, told reporters Thursday.

Last month, it was reaching record-breaking high temperatures here in the PNW but you ought to take any news that talks about "global temperatures" with a grain of salt:

I bought mine for what we called "funny hat Fridays". I now wear it with my dress blues. It confuses a lot of people.

Unfortunately, I neither deployed with the Cav, or had a chance to ride for my spurs.

At this rate, how long will it take before everything is destroyed by fire [I Peter 3:10] and we're finally finished with this lousy world?

Biblical ignorance got you jacked up CTB! "While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, And cold and heat, And summer and winter, And day and night Shall not cease." Genesis 8:22

You'd better act quickly because both the federal and most of the states' legislators will soon be back in session.

Given these politicians' proclivity to very profusely opine on any subject they care to do so, the hot air these orators produce, us poor boys are simply out of luck when comes to eliminate the REAL cause of global warming.

Those who are most sincere about climate change no longer use computers because of all of the electricity required.

Climate change is going to get a jump start when the Iranians start dropping atomic bombs everywhere their new Russian missiles will reach.

So, we are only counting since 1880? Why not go farther back? Could it be that the data would prove you a liar?

Norsemen settled Greenland around 900-1000 AD when much of the south and west coastal areas, now covered in ice, were ice-free and the coastal grasslands extended as far as 15-20 miles inland.

The Norse settlers raised crops and grazed sheep on the coastal grasslands.

How did the Romans grow grapes in northern England? Perhaps because it was warmer then than now!

A study shows the Britain of 2,000 years ago experienced a lengthy period of hotter summers than today.

German researchers used data from tree rings – a key indicator of past climate – to prove the world has been on a ‘long-term cooling trend’ for two millennia until the reversal of that trend in the 20th century.

Calling someone a liar is a little too strong.
    Maybe misinformed, or unaware.....

Now, Crabby, I do want you to realize that normally I do not agree with you - and this OP is no execption:1_grouphug:

Ignorance of all relevant facts does not make one a liar, and CTB was quoting other sources, which referenced a start date. Though there are issues with the temperature records, the data seems sufficiently robust to state that the world's temperature has warmed during the past 130+ years. The physics of greenhouse gases support the hypothesis that a significant part of that warming is anthropogenic, though attempting to parse the proportions gets one into the deep weeds.

However correct it is, the message delivery seems a bit hyperbolic. Given that the vast majority of land area is in the Northern Hemisphere, it would be a rare year in which July were not the warmest month, and in an overall warming period, would establish that record temperature.

Without question, industrialization has increased carbon-dioxide emissions—but are human emissions significant enough to accelerate warming?

    Have they already done so?

Both the Earth’s average temperature and global carbon-dioxide emissions increased during the twentieth century.

But what should we make of research showing recent warming on Mars and Pluto, planets without power plants or automobiles?

Is planetary warming simply a natural cycle?

According to David J. C. MacKay, the burning of fossil fuels sends seven gigatons (only 3.27 percent) of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year, while the biosphere and oceans account for 440 (55.28 percent) and 330 (41.46 percent) gigatons, respectively. (David John Cameron MacKay, FRS FInstP FICE, is the Regius Professor of Engineering in the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge and from 2009 to 2014 was Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change.)

Just how much of the "Greenhouse Effect" is caused by human activity? (All greenhouse gases, not just CO2.)

It is about 0.28%, if water vapor is taken into account-- about 5.53%, if not.

This point is so crucial to the debate over global warming that how water vapor is or isn't factored into an analysis of Earth's greenhouse gases makes the difference between describing a significant human contribution to the greenhouse effect, or a negligible one.

Water vapor constitutes Earth's most significant greenhouse gas, accounting for about 95% of Earth's greenhouse effect. Interestingly, many "facts and figures' regarding global warming completely ignore the powerful effects of water vapor in the greenhouse system, carelessly (perhaps, deliberately) overstating human impacts as much as 20-fold.

Water vapor is 99.999% of natural origin. Other atmospheric greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), and miscellaneous other gases (CFC's, etc.), are also mostly of natural origin (except for the latter, which is mostly anthropogenic).

Human activities contribute slightly to greenhouse gas concentrations through farming, manufacturing, power generation, and transportation. However, these emissions are so dwarfed in comparison to emissions from natural sources we can do nothing about, that even the most costly efforts to limit human emissions would have an undetectable effect on global climate. As a college student back in the 1970's - 1980's the great fear of learned climatologists back then was a so-called new ice age in which both northern [the polar Arctic Ocean] and southern ice pack [the Antarctic continent region] were both supposed to expand their ice packs to such an extent that some of these experts predicted that what's now New York City would be frozen over and possibly extend as far south as the Richmond VA region.

Some of these experts went on to predict that the Antarctic ice pack would extend as far north that it would cover most of the South American continent--possibly as far north as to cover all of Venezuela and other nations along the southern Caribbean Sea coastline.

I'm not sure on what criteria these "experts" based their "Oncoming New Ice Age Era," but that's what a vast majority were predicting would occur in the near future, possibly even as early as the late 1990's - early 21st century years.

Then, for some mysterious reason, all the sudden these so-called climate experts reversed their gloomy predictions of the near future years that the so-called "Global Warming Era" was rapidly coming upon the entire earth's region.

Why these so-called climate experts all the sudden completely reversed their decades-old predictions of the so-called "New Ice Age Era" was completely false has always baffled me.

Does anybody out here in BB land know why all the sudden these so-called climate experts made a 180-degree change in their climate predictions?
