My first thought is that it should be up to the State of Alaska.

But, people, for years will still call it Mt McKinley

It's always been Denali, named by the Koyukon Athabaskan people who inhabit the area.

And it was the state of Alaska that suggested returning it to it original name.

And the Denali National Park and Preserve has been so named since 1980.

The name Mount McKinley was only adopted in 1917 after President Wilson signed the bill creating Mount McKinley National Park.

Most people in the area call it Denali already.

Exactly. It should be left up to the state of Alaska, not King Obama.

Denali is what we called it when we lived there, it was a way to pick out the tourists.

It's a federal park, so federal action is required.

Thank you. Some folks just look for stuff to complain about and don't realize how silly it makes them look

The mountain was named Mt. McKinley by act of congress.

Once again, King Obama has usurped the constitutional powers of Congress.

    Business as usual.

Think of it as one liberal reversing another liberal and life will seem happier. ;)

Was the shooter wearing a BLM tshirt? Was he yelling Black Lives Matter as he ran away?

Seems to be the connection that folks like you, the Sheriff and the DA down there want to make just because the shooter was black.

I haven't heard anything from anyone in BLM applauding the killing of the officer in Houston. It was an indefensible act. Period.

It would be equally nice if those insisting "all lives matter" would be as quick to say the same about the killing of unarmed black and brown folks (and several unarmed white folks for that matter!) by police. But that wouldn't support the narrative.

Why didn't you and the folks like you who blame BLM for every white officer killed these days blame them for the killing of State Trooper Steven Vincent in Louisiana? Could it be because the shooter was white?

There is a certain demographic in this country that continues to undervalue black lives and thinks it's national rhetoric to complain about cops killing unarmed black people. But the minute an officer is killed, everybody is supposed to believe "we're all in this together and that All lives matter".

The so called voices of the Body of Christ on this board continue to be the model for hypocrisy.

Perhaps some need to stop claiming that they are followers of Christ and put forth that their opinions are just the rantings of angry white privilege?

Where were you guys when Bush renamed "Fort Clatsop National Memorial" to "Lewis & Clark National Historical Park"?

Now you know this has nothing to do with renaming anything and everything to do with their anger and hatred for President Obama and anything he does.

That was just fine by them--taking an Indian name and making it Americanized. But taking an American name, McKinley, and renaming it with an Inuit name, that's verboten!

Another thing to consider is that about 100 years ago an act of Congress renamed Denali mountain to Mt. McKinley. In other words, bureaucrats 3,000 miles away in Washington DC, decided to usurp the wishes of the local population. Isn't that something that conservatives traditionally oppose?

Except that the main pushback (not including this forum) is coming from folks in Ohio, home state of President McKinley. Thus the main ideology at work seems to be parochialism, not anti-Obama-ism.
