So this movie, in spite of the hyper crtiticisms of it by even some in the Christian community, has grossed more than 11 mill the first weekend coming in second to one other movie. However, it was originally in only 1/3 of the theaters that the top grossing movie was in.

Sony has not expanded its theater showing to more than 500 more from the first weekend.

The promotion of this movie went out through church leaders in contrast to the typical high dollar secular films. This movie is low budget in comparison.

CBS morning show did an interview with the Kendrick brothers and their own commentary was surprisingly positive with the personalities talking about going to see it.

One local tv news personality interviewed the Kendrick brothers and said after seeing the movie he went home and emptied his clothes closet and made his own war room (prayer room).Further they had a local report of an incident when people who went to see the movie had to be escorted out after it was finished because they all stayed and began praying.

In general, it was a good movie. I do think that the outcome wasn't as predictable but that's pretty typical of Christian movies - and heck, most movies nowadays! It can be discouraging when you are praying for your husband and it doesn't get resolved as quickly and neatly as it did in the movie but one thing is for sure - it changed the wife and as such, often it changes the husband as well. But I really enjoyed the movie myself when we saw it back in the spring at a special prescreening. It is not an evangelical kind of movie but definitely a movie to give marching orders to the body of Christ!

The news today is that this weekend the movie earned over 11 million with 1135 theaters while the 1st place "Out of Compton" only earned a couple of million more with 3142 theaters. So the movie is very good.

Hoping to see it soon as it is showing in a neighboring suburb in a really nice new theater.

Back in my younger Baptist days, the Kendricks went to my church. They have always been very talented, and more importantly they've always had a heart to serve the Lord Jesus. God has certainly used their talents in a mighty way.

Thank you--I read that last night for the first time and confused the point.

Here is the result for Labor Day according to the L.A. Times:

"The winner of the slower Labor Day weekend, however, was "War Room." The film jumped to No. 1 in its second weekend after pulling in an estimated $9.4 million Friday through Sunday from a modest 1,526 locations, according to early figures. If Labor Day estimates hold, the film will reach an estimated domestic total of nearly $28 million by the end of Monday."

The movie cost $3.5 million to produce, apparently.

Our Life Group saw this movie yesterday at a theater in Smyrna TN. I guess that since it was Labor Day, a lot more people than usual came to see it at 1:00 p.m. In fact, that early afternoon showing was completely sold out.

I'm not that much of a movie-going person mainly because it's hard for me to navigate myself in crowded spaces due to being paralyzed as a result of a stroke. The rows in this theater are quite narrow, and even when a film's not being shown, they keep the viewing area very dim, which doesn't help me to see where I'm walking.

At any rate, I did enjoy this film. I'd say that this one was a rather good one in the sense that it portrayed how 1 Peter Chapters 1-3 can be put into action by a family whose relationship with Christ was very marginal at best.

At almost 70 years old, and never having been married at all, much of the film's plot really never hit home to me personally, but for those folks who are married--especially when both marriage partners are very self-willed individuals--they could probably see themselves in the adult characters of this movie.

I also liked how the film portrayed the fact that even when a married couple realizes that being forgiven of past sins, some of those sins will still carry some dire consequences that need to be dealt with in one's personal life.

If you're the type of person who enjoys seeing movies that really speak to your own life's issues, you'll probably enjoy watching this one.
