Is there a verse or section of scripture that you keep in mind to avoid this same pitfall?

It sounds like William Lane Craig's kind of material.

This kind of person deserves the kind of reply Jesus gave in Matthew 22:29:'You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures orthe power of God."

That's right off the bat. But God has determined everyting about us:where we live, how long we shall live --on and on. Nothing escapes his notice. Not a sparrow falls without the care of the Father (Matthew 10:29). In Job 12:10 it says :"In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind."

For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall both live, and do this or that. Ja 4:15

I say 'Lord willing', under my breath AND out loud, all the time.

At the end of the day, I find myself weak and at His feet, casting all my care upon him. I still fight, but the battle is not mine.

Unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust in thee. Let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me. Yea, let none that trust in thee be ashamed. Let them be ashamed which transgress without cause. Shew me thy ways, O Lord. Teach me thy paths.

So how do you live out that saying?

Is saving for the future wrong? I do it. How much is too much?

Is not saving presumptious on the Lord? ...'the Lord will care for me'.

There's go to be some middle ground where we can plan for a possible future but recognise that the Lord may change our plans.
We've got to be open to the possiblity that things will not always turn out the way we think they will, ...even though 'all things work out for good'.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, Col 3:23 NIV

It's an attitude. I had what appears to be a mutant bean plant out of my crop of 'Doyce Chambers Greasy Cut Shorts' this season. I've now 36 purple speckled greasy bean seed that, if the Lord willing, I'll grow out next year and start my own landrace and name it, well, after me of course! :)

    Hello Aaron
I think it's safe to say that an obedient Christian could almost insert himself into 2/3 of the psalms
the prayers that are found in the psalms would be the same thought or prayer we would have if we are alone before God.
Have you noticed as you get older that some of the psalms come across in a different way to you than they did when you were younger Christian I know like psalm 71 speaks to me a lot more now than it did 20 of 30 years ago

13 Come now, ye that say, To-day or to-morrow we will go into this city, and spend a year there, and trade, and get gain:
14 whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. What is your life? For ye are a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall both live, and do this or that. Ja 4

If the Lord will I'll have the strength to till and plant and grow again my garden next year, and will keep my health, not be inundated with medical bills, and be able to continue to deposit a good portion of my monthly retirement check into the credit union.

Is there something wrong or unbiblical with that attitude?

Absolutely. Some folks haven't lived long enough to make enough mistakes, or lived well enough to have real enemies.
