    Wikipeda Definition

New Covenant Theology (or NCT) is a Christian theological position teaching that the Old Testament Laws have been abrogated or cancelled with Jesus' crucifixion, and replaced with the Law of Christ of the New Covenant

Is this definition correct? If so, does anybody have any issues with it as a legitimate theological position to hold to?

IMHO NCT has gone too far towards dispensationalism in trying to distance itself from the Law. There are three parts to the Law: judicial, ceremonial, and moral. Christ has fulfilled the judicial and ceremonial, but the moral law of God continues. NCT has a difficult time with this.

I would tweak the above saying that Christ fulfilled all the law. If I owed a debt I could not pay, but my debt was paid by another, all the math still applies, it's just been satisfied in my case.

The law still has it's doctrinal and moral authority. We must still speak of goats and bulls, and the priesthood and the tabernacle; It's just that to lay a lamb on the altar today would be a transgression, because that would testify that Christ had not yet come.

I am certainly not for sacrifices but one of these does not automatically lead to the other. There certainly is no scripture to support such a claim.

Would say that the NCT though has done a service, in that they have tried to see in the New Covenant the real meaning of what ot means to now be not wedded to the Law, but now to Christ and His grace!

    1) I do not know if your definition is correct, but I agree that the view as you defined is a legitimate theological position.

    2) The Old Covenant Law still has a role as far as leading others to Christ.

    3) But on the other hand, Atheists use examples of OT law, stone your child etc, to vilify theists. So we must be ready to challenge the use of abrogated requirements, and ask for examples of the Law of Christ which they see as inappropriate.
You will be greeted with silence.

    4) Love your God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself summarizes the OT Law as it applies today.

Do they base this New Covenant Theology position on these verses?

Mathew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

When will the law pass?... Has that law been fulfilled?... Was it filled in the resurrection of Christ or because literal heaven and earth has not passed is it not yet future?... Does the fulfilling of that mentioned come to the full completion when Christ delivers ALL the children that the Father has given at the last day... Our Glorious Resurrection?... Brother Glen

You know....I get more confused each time I read all that's written about this subject matter.....so I'm looking for something solid to hang my lid on. I find that the theology isn't solidified & somewhat ambiguous, which leads me to shy away from it.

So bottom line, there is a guy down the road teaching this but he doesn't come right and declare it. Kind of sneaky like. So should I be concerned?

I thought maybe this would be helpful for you brethren, the following link is the full article!... Brother Glen

Covenant Theology versus New Covenant Theology? Only one view will stand the test of scripture concerning how all men, whether on the Old Testament side of the cross or the new, were saved the exact same way. There has been no change in he promise illustrated throughout scripture in God's magnificent salvation program. From Able, Abraham, Noah and David, to Peter, Paul and Stephen, they were all saved by the same Covenant of Grace in Christ Jesus. Covenant Theology is Biblical theology.

If the trumpet make an uncertain sound who shall prepare himself for battle... If I hit a sour note let me know that too!... Will I change my mind?... I will examine your reply with my spiritual microscope or telescope!... Brother Glen:D
