That brings back memories. Like my third grade Halloween school parade. I dressed up as a deer hunter and took my official Red Rider BB gun to school as a prop. It sat next to my desk all day long and I carried it in the parade. The only complaint about my get up that day was the smell from the burnt cork I used to paint the beard on my face. That was 1966-67.

    How times have changed.

    Yea, verily!!

The days when virtually every kid had some form of a "six shooter", and the school shootings were so common.

So glad the gun control advocates have succeeded!

(Sarcasm just in case any readers fail to grasp that aspect!!:saint:)

When I was a kid I had the cap pistol that you loaded with a roll of caps. The roll had holes in between the powder dots of the caps and the trigger action rotated a toothed gear that engaged into the holes in the roll. You could get the rapid fire action like in the video. Unlike the one shown in the video, it didn't shoot any projectiles.

Of course, boys being boys, we would take an entire roll of caps, place it on the sidewalk and then hammer it with a hammer and get one big satisfying loud BANG!!.

    Been there, done that!

One of my favorite activities with my "Red Ryder" was to lay in the grass/clover and wait for a honey bee to land on a stem of clover, take deadly aim, and shoot the stem out from under the bee.

I could usually get the same bee about four times before he would give up and get outta Dodge.

It's a shame that we didn't know how good life was then - not being an adult with all the attendant woes.

But even now, God is good, and I am blessed!:godisgood:

Me too, of course trying to burn a hole in them with a magnifying glass does not obtain the intended result.

Of course neither does tennis ball cannons when you accidentally spill the gasoline all over the drive way.

...and my dad would come home and yell at me for using his hammer to pound the caps on the driveway.

I was surrounded by toy guns and real guns when I was a child. So were my friends. And yet, it never occurred to us to actually shoot somebody.

We had an old chert pit near our house and it was awesome for playing war.

When we were a little older and Alabama legalized fireworks, we'd go there and shoot bottle rockets at each other. But that's another story.

Funny how those of us who grew up with guns in the house, playing with guns, watching Roy Rogers, Gunsmoke, the Rifleman, Have Gun Will Travel, Bonanza, and all those shows never thought to kill somebody, but those who have grown up and been indoctrinated to believe guns are evil are on the news every night.

    Thank you, Sarah Brady.

Tennis ball cannons? We used to make those but we used Zippo lighter fluid. I never really got over it when they came out with those newfangled cans with the weird tops and bottoms.

How about the stick match shooting flame throwers made from the springy two piece clothespins? They were fun.

We did as well normally but at least one time we did not have any sooooo...there was plenty of gasoline in the can in the shed which later burned brightly all over the driveway. Of course one kid panicked and turned the water hose on it. Now it burned brightly in the grass as well.

It's all fun and games until someone sets the lawn on fire. Funny how we were able to come up with all that fun stuff before the internet and Youtube.

I actually started a pretty big fire in one of my friend's yard playing with a magnifying glass and a piece of paper.

Magnifying glass+paper+dry grass+ten year old boy never ends well.

My favorite thing to do was to poke a hole in an empty soup can, stick a fire cracker in it and then put it in about two inches of water in a baking pan. You can blow them about sixty feet in the air.

I always heard that God took care of children and fools, and with a lot of us the two were inseparable.
Makes me wonder how I managed to become an adult.

As teens we made potato guns out of a PVC tube and used hair spray for fuel. Yee-Haw!

When we ran out "caps" but still wanted to make some noise we'd take empty .22 shells fill them with match heads and smack em hard with a rock or a hammer.

Then go around yelling at each other because we couldn't hear.
