By now most of you have read or heard something about the the disagreement to elevate the missionary priest from Spanish held California, to sainthood! Do you agree with this move considering the protest by California Indian tribes over the treatment and slave like use of indigenous people in the priests qudst to evangelize California for the Catholic church?

I challenge anyone--RCC or otherwise--to give me a specific book, chapter, and verse that's found in any of the 27 canonized NT books where we see somebody canonized in the sense of the OP.

(Note: I don't plan on holding my breath until I get a clear-cut response that shows exactly what I'm asking for in my above-posted challenge!):thumbsup:

My 21st Century Modern Version, Dynamic Equivilence Ebonic Version of the original Latin Vulgate Bible has a footnote on Hezekiah 6:66 that claims that a secret Bible revisionist council that was called by former Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican's annex of the Westcott & Hart University in 2008 proclaimed that this verse isn't found in most later translations.

I wonder if the Latin-Vulgate-Only Society founded by St. Peter Ruckman has published any tracts denouncing this statement? I've heard that he claims that the Latin Vulgate actually "corrects" the original Hebrew, so maybe we need to look into this.....Yah think??

Canonized? Sounds like overkill. A simple firing squad should be enough.

    Wow! That's funny, too!

The Pope told Congress that we had mistreated the Native Americans and mentioned Cherokees as an example so I guess that Father Serra mistreated Native Americans, too, by extension of logic, but I'm not Catholic and I do not care what they do.

Did he seriously call us out on Native Americans???? We treated them better than Rome did Anabaptists and other Protestants. Or is it OK to kill and take the property of people of different religious beliefs, but not race?I have to Google this......

Oh wait it seems the Pope was indirectly saying that.

"The core purpose of Serra's work was to purge the region of its native culture and install the church in its place. For this reason, some American Indian activists were*fiercely opposed*to the canonization;*"

"The missions ended up killing about 90% of the California Indians present at the time of missionization, creating all kinds of cultural and emotional baggage that we still carry to this day," Miranda said."

"They're interested in his record and in how many people he managed to convert and in the fact that he at this point in time is a famous Spanish person when the church really needs some positive PR, so they are purposely overlooking the deaths and the cultural genocide of Native American people because it's to their benefit."

"...before he(pope) did, he took a step to acknowledge the nation's often horrific treatment of American Indians. America, he argued, should demonstrate a sense of compassion it so rarely showed during the colonization of the continent:"

America should have compassion.... But the church....not so much. The guy lectures the US while making a saint of a guy who led missions that apparently killed 90% of native Americans they came across?

I haven't heard Ruckman make the claim the Vulgate corrects the Hebrew. He has however made the claim that the English KJV corrects the Greek.

Are you Catholic? Why would someone who is not Catholic be interested or even consider whether the Catholic church sets men on some perch to be prayed to?

Come on Rev .... what a strange question coming from you! I won't dignify your inquiry with an answer. It is my hope that you would already know that answer.

I asked the question only because there are a lot of folks claiming to be born-again believers who are glued to their sets, and they are not Catholic, which made me ask the question. I thought maybe I was an oddity of sorts for being so distanced and even angered over all the coverage.

Oh, I exaggerated accidently in my post in that it is Breitbart that mentioned the Trail of Tears but they did give the Peronist Pope's exact words to Congress:

Tragically, the rights of those who were here long before us were not always respected. For those peoples and their nations, from the heart of American democracy, I wish to reaffirm my highest esteem and appreciation. Those first contacts were often turbulent and violent, but it is difficult to judge the past by the criteria of the present. Nonetheless, when the stranger in our midst appeals to us, we must not repeat the sins and the errors of the past. We must resolve now to live as nobly and as justly as possible, as we educate new generations not to turn their back on our “neighbors” and everything around us. Building a nation calls us to recognize that we must constantly relate to others, rejecting a mindset of hostility in order to adopt one of reciprocal subsidiarity, in a constant effort to do our best. I am confident that we can do this.
