So this year it's a little hard not to take it personally. I'm a contract specialist for the Navy's Engineering Command so September is an especially stressful and busy time of year for us. All of the Marine Corps installations that we support want to ensure their fiscal year funding is allocated prior to the end of the fiscal year so the funds are not lost. A lot of long nights, negotiations, increased work load and frantic pace is potentially going to be rewarded with unpaid time off on October 1st.

The last time we were furloughed it was only one day a pay period but it's still a pretty sizeable chunk of money that is missed when you have a mortgage and two kids.

Not a whole lot to discuss but I'd appreciate prayers that a potential shutdown is thwarted this year as there are a lot people working hard to support our military during this time.

This so called coming through means we must compromise supporting the government funding of the slaughter of unborn children.

    Uh no thank you.

Which isn't what he said at all. It's just that he has decided that fiscal anarchy might not be the best way to go about it. Easy for you to say since you won't be one of the hundreds of thousands that has to deal with it. You can easily see the damage the last sequestration period caused by reading the lead article.

I also like the way that my first post that pretty much avoided the politics and simply issued a prayer request was ignored but when when politics are brought up here you are within minutes. It's very telling. Appreciate it pastor.

You put it in news and current events. If you simply wanted a prayer request you should have placed it there. I am not going to pray that the government does not shut down if it means continuing sending government funds to the slaughter of unborn children. It needs to end here.

I do not want anyone to be out of work. When extremists fund organizations like PP via the tax payers then it puts all of us in a bad situation. The continuation of funding PP is more grievous than people being out of work. Government shut down is the lesser of two evils.

Well it is a current event but why couldn't I ask for a prayer request on a Baptist message board for resolution? What a copout. What should I do, make sure God stays out of our precious news and current events section? Wow.

For whatever reason you seem to keep ignoring the fact that they simply plan to attack planned parenthood specifically without taking the scorched Earth policy to the rest of the budget while we still have troops in combat situations and a country to run. This is obvious to even most Republicans except for Ted Cruz who pulled this crap before and made a giant mess. A lot of Republicans aren't fans of dealing with that fallout again.

I am not ignoring what they say, I am relying on the fact that they keep saying it and never do anything. Guys like Boehner are liars and liberals hence he is ousted. Now since you like to argue just to argue this will be my last response to you.

What exactly is Boehner lying about here exactly? Ousted? Who ousted him? The guy resigned. None of that past makes a lick of sense including the pointless ad hominem's. And how am I arguing just to argue? It's called an opposing view point which you predictably can't handle. I started this thread, you are the one arguing just to argue which is evident with how fast you tuck tail when solid opposing points are made. Do you have one thing of any substance to say here at all? I stand willing to support my argument.

You're right though. It would be best if you bowed out of this one. You'll just have to wait for Breitbart.

It's classic Mitch. Comes into a thread just to fight. Has zero supporting commentary without the help of his favorite website. Realizes he is in over his head, blames the OP and then leaves before he has to substantiate his opinion. He will only return with a linked article slanted heavily to support his own bias. These things are as constant as death and taxes.

Anyway. Still not out of the woods yet as far as a furlough but I'm cautiously optimistic.

The GOP is not going to shut the government down again because the Establishment GOP is impossible to differentiate from Democrats.

What the GOP needs to do is to pass a bill funding everything except Planned Parenthood but we know that the Democrats would veto that, so the GOP will fund the slaughter of the unborn and the GOP will tacitly approve the auction of baby body parts.

The root of the problem is that Obamacare did not provide for spinal transplants for the GOP.

There never will be reform in this country if we continue the practice of either passing continuing resolutions or the practice of lumping all expenditures into one bill. These recent practices have led to fiscal disasters and have only pleased Democrats and the ones holding the trillions of dollars in federal debt, not to mention the central bank which says that the economy is so terrible that interest rates cannot be raised.

Obama has been a bad leader and the Democrats have joined with him in refusing to look at Planned Parenthood. So we now have a so-called free republic with widespread human rights that engages in a Mengele-like auction of human parts left over from a primitive practice of some Canaanite tribe under the spell of Satan. It turns out that Calvin is correct to classify all people, including rich Americans, in the category of totally depraved.

U of T- Mrs. Rolf and I are not too far from Marinette, WI. Marinette Marine is a large part of the local economy and employs many. The company builds LCSs (three were in the river at the shipyard last time I drove past. I think one is scheduled to leave soon.). Seems like they live a never-ending roller coaster ride dealing with that Naval Contract. Budget cuts, talk of reduced orders, things like that.

Oh, no doubt. I work in Facilities contracting supporting the Marine Corps dealing with the design and construction of things like ranges, barracks, headquarters bldgs etc. There were a lot of delays and constraints which cost us big time during the last shutdown. Some projects had to slip to the next fiscal year.

It is not the GOP that wants this low-level of military spending. Since the days of Eisenhower the cornerstone of GOP foreign policy has been Peace Through Strength, as you know.

I still say that the GOP will cave on Planned Parenthood and allow not only taxpayer funding of abortion but they will allow the Democrats to continue to deny that there in no Mengele-like auction of baby parts.

There will be no shutdown. Washington DC is too crooked for words.

*sigh* Never said that it did. My comment was meant to be empathetic to U of T's situation.

Are you Revmitchell's protege? Not every post needs to be about politics.

Well, if you want to get technical, Obama chose what to shut down last time. I think that Clinton can carry Minnesota no matter what, for the record. As for the military stuff, I don't know what that has to do with Planned Parenthood or praying for money for the author of the thread. And I don't know how I became the protégé of someone whom I precede on this board.

And I really don't see that Boehner's being forced to resign amounts to a government shutdown.
