Hello. My name is Matt and I am from Romania.
Although I educated as a Catholic, I've been an atheist most of my life. However, due to some personal reasons, I decided to adopt some of the Christian values, especially as my best friends are Catholics and Baptists and I don't want to cause them problems.

I joined this forum because I want to speak with other Christians, just to see how they perceive the idea of God and why do they choose to believe. I hope that it's not a problem that I am not a baptist per se.

Hello Matt, and welcome to the forum, I hope your time here will be blessed.

What is it that you think would cause you problems with your friends?

    God bless.

Well, their parents are a bit radical and sometimes I will hold ground on what I think it's fair. However, when it comes to going in public, I try to keep myself under the radar, because otherwise, their parents would forbid to see me.

The thing is I respect Christianity, I just have problems in fully adopting it as a way of life, mainly because there are a lot of bad teachings, especially in the Old Testament.

I am so sorry, 111, I didn't realize you had responded. Have to get going but wanted to tell you this is usually why some embrace an atheistic view. The other primary reason being bad experiences with people who are supposed to be Christian.

I am confident though that if you give a chance to understand the context of the Old Testament, you will better understand certain issues that might seem like bad teachings.

I would like to discuss them with you so if you will, start with the primary teaching you see as bad. On a tablet right now so limited in response.

    Look forward to the discussion.

    God bless.

I will definitely start some debates :D The funny thing is that, at least in my country, the Bible (both of the main ones, the Orthodox and the Catholic) isn't translated properly. Basically, all the shady verses are either missing or they are...adjusted. I'll make a post about it when I have time to study both of the bibles a little bit more.

    Again, looking forward to it.

I would suggest to you, though, that when it comes to translations we can look at the original languages here...

    ...Strong's Online Concordance...

...to study not only meaning but Biblical usage.

And just curious, you say they aren't translated properly, could you give some examples?

    Another link that helps is...

    ...BibleGateway.

You can look at a variety of translations here, and post passages that you have issues with.

I usually post the Scripture that I am dealing with for the benefit of my antagonist, so that they don't have to leave the page to look up what I am talking about.

Met a man from Romania, once. Was on a Missions trip in Austria, where we were helping in the renovation of a Church building, and this fellow had come from Romania to pick up materials being taken out of the building. Had a grip like a vice, lol. Made a day trip into the Republic of Czech, which was awesome. The sights were awesome. Went to the village/town, where they filmed that movie Pinnochio, and visited a very old church. There was a castle (I guess it was a castle) built into the side of a mountain, looked like it had been carved right out of it. All in all some amazing sights.

Okay, look forward to taking a look at the "bad teachings" of the Old Testament, 111.

    God bless.
