I realize that their were serious issues regarding race on the university campus, but I think the football team ultimatum that forced the president to resign today is setting a very bad precedence for future protests to force out white people who may not be doing the job to protect black students or employees (in businesses) and want that person "fired!"

We see that this has sent many cops on the outside looking in following behaviors that did reflect the best interest of black folks who came into contact with law enforcement. And while some cops did deserve to be sent packing, others didn't.

If this wave of protests continue to work in ridding undesirables from positions of importance maybe we can all look forward to doing the same thing to Obama one day soon. ;)

The way I would have handled this was by telling the black players they are under scholarship, and if they don't play, the university would consider their scholarship null and void and voluntarily vacated. In short, tuition is now yours to pay. Thanks for all you have done so far.

I would have given them the time to talk over the issues and work for solutions, but never would I allow a few angry jocks to "blackmail"into resigning, especially if I had done all I could to fix or address the problem.

The days of Ferguson are over. No more "pound of flesh" to settle difference.

What are you thoughts on this most recent development at U of M?????

Goes to show you what an effective economic boycott (which is essentially what shutting down the football program is) does to speed the "decision making process." Wolfe basically trivialized complaints of racism and then blamed the victims. Nasty.

Wouldn't have worked. The University would have been out millions of dollars of revenues from the suspended football program. The football program would have been destroyed for years, probably decades. The university would not be able to recruit black football players so their program would be in the toilet.

Your "solution" would have the university cut off a couple hundred thousand dollars in scholarship money by losing tens of millions of dollars in football revenue. You would be sending a message that we have a racial problem here on campus and if anybody objects we yank their scholarships, esp. blacks.

Lol. The word is precedent. They did exactly what they should have done and it's a good lesson for the younger generation to get.

This story has NOTHING to do with police officers.

You've already tried or is your memory really that bad?

Well you're just a tad bit HUMONGOUS bit ignorant when it comes to things like this. The coach knew that the players were correct so he supported them. If he had attempted to yank their scholarships and then word of what happened on this campus got out, then his head would have been on the chopping block right along with the now-resigned school President.

You're a day late and a million dollars short. HE didn't take the previous "talk over" very seriously and that's why he's gone.

The days of unchecked racial prejudice and perhaps racism too are apparently over at the University of Missouri.

The days of Ferguson are NOT over, as long as that Jay Nixon is governor of the state - Tim Wolfe had no choice but to resign. The booster club make it clear that if he didn’t resign, and the Board of Curators still refused to fire him, Nixon would be stepping in to claim the scalp for the BLM.

The reason for the racial unrest on the campus was that some unknown person in a truck yelled some racial slur at some faculty member there, then someone made a swastika out of human waste and left it in a dorm room. Well, Wolfe's non-response led to the radical blacks protesting homecoming and they got all bent out of shape when he didn't jump up and march with them. Then, they trolled Wolfe to Kansas City and he told them the big problem was with them themselves. That was enough and here you have the rare "victory" for the left on their on PC turf. Making their football team actually win will be much, much harder for them all.

Sad that it took a threat of losing millions of dollars for the university to properly address this issue. One would think an institution of higher learning would have moved quicker. It's laughable that the presidents suggested they convine a committee about these issues in April! Even from the base PR level, it's fairly clear that he didn't get it. Guy on a hunger strike, football team refusing to play, professors speaking out...yeah, I'm free in April, how about you?

How about students, head football coach, professors and the board of curators? I mean just what would it take for you to address the issues that were so flippantly dismissed?

I'm going to need to know what this has to do with the thread. They can obviously handle both as do hundreds of other institutions across the nation.

Well I sincerely hope you are right that students will be supported by faculty, athletics and administration in standing up to racism. It's kind of odd that you think this is a bad thing. They should just sit there and take it right RD2?

Both. Most of these state schools get a lot of their funding from donors. Without football, alumni donations (corporate and individual)dry up.

Good. For once you need to be right about something. It doesn't need to. Some of yall sound insane in thinking that a university President can sit back and allow this stuff to go unchecked and keep his job. This isn't the 1960s.

The NCAA should be shaking in its boots because the student athletes finally figured out that they really have the power.

What does this list have to do with the guy who was on a hunger strike and the football players?

Anyway, I like the list. It shows that the students have done their homework and understand how strides were made in the Civil Rights Era. You don't have to get everything. But you've got to have a plan that outlines the changes you want to see made.
