Nor does it forbid doing so. I would say that Christ's teachings show he would be in favor of helping others.

Salty. That has been happening a long time. I remember when I was a kid visiting a great-uncle in Montana and he talking about wheat allotments.

This is a straw man argument, Christ's teaching on helping others, is directed to individuals, not to a government entity, the responsibility to love and care for others is something individuals must decide according to their own conscience and the leading of God, for the Government to take money from working members of society to redistribute wealth in the forms of public education, giving out welfare, etc, is not in accordance with the teachings of Christ.

In Romans we are told that the government bears the sword to punish evil doers, in Genesis God told mankind to be fruitful and multiple, God wants us to be fruitful and multiply, he wants us to be producers, The Governments job is to protect the producers from those who would seek to A. Steal their produce. and B. Take their lives from them, thus preventing them from multiplying.

This is the job of the government according to scripture, The government has zero authority from God to redistribute people's money according to their own whims and desires.

For you to take a the teachings of Christ that were aimed at individuals and give it to the government is gross misinterpretation of the scriptures.

For example in Mark 16:15, the scriptures say go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature...

Do you also believe that the government as an institution should use our tax payers money to send missionaries?

If you say no, then you're a hypocrite if you really believe what you said in this post.

If you say yes, then you are simply showing us that you fail to understand that different entities in society have different roles and authority given by God.

The Church's role is to preach the Gospel, and teach the word of God.
The Governments role is to protect us from evil doers and to allow us to lead a quiet and peaceable life of serving God; welfare and creating jobs, etc is not the governments role or responsability.

the individuals job and role is to love God with all his heart, and then to have compassion on others.

And let's be honest, for some people are poor and struggling, perhaps it's a judgment of God upon their life for sin, to say that everyone deserves money, food, clothing, shelter, etc is wrong.

May I remind you that when Babylon sacked Jerusalem, many Jews were killed and lead into starvation through means the Babylonians when they besieged Jerusalem ... FOR THEIR SIN.

The government is not the saviour of mankind, and God promises to provide for those who put him first Matthew 6:33 give us that promise, If someone refuses to put God first, or refuses to work because they are lazy, then they deserve to be poor because of their sin.

For the government to take the money from other people who work for it, and to redistribute it as they please, IS WRONG.

You my friend seem to fail to understand individual responsibility, and you seem to think government programs are the solution to ending suffering, they are not, Souls repenting of their sins and turning to Jesus Christ is the solution, and until the nations of this world do that, there will always be the poor, murder, hatred, selfishness.

Legislating morality and trying to micromanage everyone's lives is not going to solve the world's problem. Man's wicked heart is the problem of this world, and until you change that, we will never have the circumstances that are desirable.

Liberals policies often fail to take into the account the Biblical role of government, individual responsibility, and the reality of man's sin nature.
