I thought Superbowl 50 was great. I really enjoy defensive struggles and I must say Denver's defense is as good as any I've seen ... including some of the great defensive teams fielded by the Baltimore Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers. The first sack of Cam Newton was as beautiful as an 80 yard run. I love to see glory quarterbacks running for their lives and glory runners being stuffed at the line of scrimmage. Carolina's defense was good, but not as good as Denver's.

Also, Carolina was out-coached. Denver made a number of adjustments that surprised Carolina and kept them off-balance and confused. The green-dog blitzing was so effective that Carolina never got into any rhythm. The extra lineman took away Carolina's run as well as preventing Newton from scrambling ... and he had no time to sit in the pocket waiting for a receiver to break open.

I had reasons to want both teams to win. It is good the old man went out a winner. It is sad the young man ended up giving his critics more ammunition.

I sat back and truly enjoyed the game.

I was hoping for a different outcome, since my kids are Panthers fans. But it was a good game. Talib's facemask play was my only complaint.

I was born in Colorado so I'm die hard Bronco Fan, so I was very happy with the outcome. Although I will admit that I wish they had played the Arizona Cardinals just so I could enjoy the way a state buzzes before the Superbowl when their team is in it.

Agree, the facemask by Talib was really bad, no excuse for what he did.

I thought the game was a dreadful bore. Here is a summary of Super Bowl 50:

Incomplete pass, penalty, incomplete pass, sack, fumble, penalty, punt, field goal, incomplete pass, sack, punt, incomplete pass, fumble, penalty, field goal, (repeat)

The halftime show was garbage. The commercials were not as entertaining as past years.

I was rooting for Denver, so at least they won. Carolina had so many chances to get back into the game and they choked. That last fumble where Cam Newton declined to go into the fray and recover the ball will likely stick with him for the rest of his career. It appeared that he just didn't care about the game at that point.

Light, you need to learn the beauty of watching a good defense. A really good defense will make a good offense look bad. That is they job. That defense was a think of beauty to watch.

I never watch the halftime. Just is not the kind of "entertainment" that I appreciate. I am not into soft porn.

I agree that Denver's defense was spectacular, and was a joy to watch them pressure Newton. However, the game was still boring. There were too many incompletions and penalties. The first half was an hour and 40 minutes long. Typically the first half of the Super Bowl is an hour and 20 minutes long. The quarterback ratings were in the mid-50's for both teams. Both teams set records for third down conversion futility (Denver was only 1 for 14!). There were only two touchdowns by the offensive teams, both were line plunges from the 2 and 1 yard line. There were 7 fumbles. The game "featured" 15 punts. There were 18 penalties. These are the two best teams in football? BORING.

As I said, good defenses will make good offenses look bad.

Maybe next year will be a better one for you.

If you think back to the Denver-Pittsburgh game Denver's offense was really stinky.
Peyton Manning, to his credit, has said numerous times that is was their defense that won games.

I thought he was very honest when he said something like, "I'm glad I did not have to face the Denver defense. I bet the "old man" was pretty sore Monday morning.

    Cheers.

Talib should have been ejected. He tossed him like a rag. That could have really injured him.

I agree. Perhaps there is no rule to eject a person for such an offense ... but there should be.

I don't think a facemask penalty in and of itself is an ejectable offense, but when you you grab, pull, and then toss the player to the ground by it as Talib did, he should have been tossed like a salad.

Defense wins you the game. Like it did Denver who never gave up the lead.
