Time Warner Cable has announced they are going all digital

What this means is that everyone must have a digital box to pick up cable - even if you get the "starter" package of just a few stations.

The digital box will be supplied at no charge for the two years.
    UNLESS YOU ARE ON MEDICAID
Then you get it at no charge for 5 years.

WHAT- If you are needy you will get this luxury for FIVE years - but if you are a hard working American, you will have to pay for years 3-5.

What about those on Medicare ( for the elderly?) That I would not have as much of a problem.

I will be sending a letter to to Time Warner.

Are you on the "starter package"? If so, what are the stations in the starter package?

I ask because maybe you could get all the stations you want with an antenna.

There are currently 2 packages you do not need a device for.
One is a 12 station package - the other has about 80 channels.

We have the next level - partly to get the Christian stations. Also I like the variety of News channel ( I do watch them all, Fox, MSNBC, CNN, BBC ect) Mrs. Salty likes ones such as TNT, AMC, ect.

But the point is why do those on Medicaid get 3 additional free years - for a luxury.

As you said, with an antenna - we can get about 7 local stations - and with the sub-channels - it ends up being about a total of 20.

Not sure but I think it is an extension of the Lifeline Assistance program started by Reagan in 1985 to give Medicaid recipients subsidized phone service. Then George W. Bush expanded it to cell phones (free Obama cell phones actually started rolling out under Bush) and now Obama has expanded it to cable TV.

I can see where a phone is a necessity - but not cable.
When I lost my job -the first thing to go was cable.
