How many times are we going to have to do this?

‘Embedded Racial Inequity’ Described at SBC's National African American Fellowship

"[LifeWay executive Mark] Croston. . .urged the cross-cultural NAAF gathering of Southern Baptist pastors and denominational leaders to recognize such embedded inequities that come from what he called “white privilege,” and to be intentional and active in securing and embracing racial reconciliation."

"'We have passed a lot of resolutions. We’ve had a lot of reports and task forces' Croston said. 'So you can’t just keep doing the same stuff over and over again. You can’t just keep voting and voting and voting on the same thing, over and over again, and think that they mean anything. You actually have to come to a point where you just do it.'"

"Croston also suggested that pastors and denominational leaders hire diverse executives. . . .'When we look at our SBC entities, their workforces match neither the society in general, nor the population of the SBC (Southern Baptist Convention) itself'"

". . .if we are going to remove the stain of racism we must elevate the Great Commandment to the same level as the Great Commission"

If they are going to start talking about "white privilege" they will alienate people. "White privilege" is a myth and a political tool.

Certain white "politically" conservative people have a tendency to deny a lot of things exist.

    Yall deny racism.
    Yall deny white privilege.
Yall deny systemic racism in policing.
Yall deny the prison industrial complex.
    Yall deny racial profiling.
    Yall deny the wealth gap.
    Yall deny climate change.

    Deny , deny, deny.

White privilege seems to make you think that everyone else has to accept what you say as the truth just because you say something doesn't exist.

    Foolishness.

Thank you. It's foolish to even ask such a question especially when you see the things that are currently playing out in this country.

It's encouraging to see humility coming out of some in the SBC who recognize the need to as followers of Christ, to once and for all deal with this without being offput by those who think this is about making them feel "guilty".

Or until the race baiters move on with an actual real agenda.

You and the Donald trump radicalized right, which you do fit in quite well with based upon your words over the years, do quite a bit of race baiting yourself. That white privilege that you mentioned before just has you in denial mode as the privileged generally are.

    Depends on who's judging.

Trump is not a racist, but that doesn't stop anyone from calling him a racist among other things.

If you think the world is going to be fair, I don't think you've read the Scriptures. Was there any fault in Christ? The more christlike you become, the more the world will hate you and lie about you.

The Southern Baptists aren't focused on Christ. At least not at this annual meeting.

Or until in-denial Southern Baptists recognize that racism and racial prejudice in the SBC is just as big an issue as is abortion and same sex marriage.

Forgive me for being late to the party...plus I don't attend a SBC church, but what in this history of this debate has been evidenced as racism within the SBC? In other words, are people of a non-white pigment not allowed to be in leadership, or pastors, et.?

If only it were so simple.

    Let's see:

The Southern Baptist Convention owes its existence largely to the defense of slavery; the Southerners split from the Triennial Convention, for the most part, on that topic.

For many decades the Southern Baptist churches endorsed Jim Crow and, as the dominant religion in the Old South, accepted all manner of racial discrimination. Seraprate but equal schools, exclusion from white colleges, proscriptions on voting. The list goes on.

No, the modern SBC is on record against these practices, to its credit. And a growing number of black congregations are members of SBC churches.

But it is folly to pretend that all the wounds of the past have been resolved. How can racial reconciliation, indeed, any type of reconciliation, be foreign to the convention?

This thread has evoked exactly the response I expected: "What? We got nothing to apologize for" versus "All ya'll are racists and need a good beat-down.:

Totally pointless. Reconciliation will be accomplished congregation to congregation, God help us to move forward.

Wow. That was beautiful. *wipes tear*

No, really. I'm touched. Which wounds need binding—specifically. Is it the lash? Well, take off rsr's shirt and bind him to the post. How many stripes rsr?

Now, tell us exactly by which standard you will judge all wounds healed? When the world stops speaking evil of you? If it does, then you have some real worrying to do. The road to Hell is paved with diversity.

The SBC does not owe its existence to racism. We need to stop the exaggeration. It does not add to the conversation.

The only reason why "wounds" are open is for political purposes.

I never owned a slave nor my parents nor grandparents nor great grandparents nor great-great grandparents that is all I can report on because that is all that I have facts for. If the above poster only reported facts then the post would have been much shorter.
Why do we have to reconcile with those who we have had no reason to reconcile with? I can not apologize for someone else or for those who are not even alive, unless, my behavior aligns with there poor behavior. Then I would be trying to reconcile on my behalf and no one else's. I am not in debt for someone else to someone else for a debt that is not theirs to claim or mine to pay.
To do something over and over means your just taking up time and trying to make headlines or someone is trying to take credit for something someone else has already done.
The vast majority of SBC churches have not done anything lately to support or encourage racial inequity. Politics has done this and it is the liberal side that has thrown the rock and then ran and blamed it on the conservatives. Thanks for reading to the end but if I did sway from fact, feel free to tell me about it.
    just sayin

What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge?
