My wife and I went shopping for my son. Here's what has me amazed. He's 6 ft. 1, 210 lbs, and now wears a 14 4E shoe. And this at 12 years old.

Can't go by those charts. I'm 6'4". When I weighed 203 (overweight according to the chart) I looked sickly (in a 32 pant) and was told to gain at least 10 pounds. The dr. explained my ideal weight was around 215. I'm past that now, unfortunately. :-(.

At one time we did BFI's underwater, which demonstrated just how off the charts were. Not that he couldn't stand to lose a few pounds and certainly not that I don't need to shed a few pounds (but I wouldn't recommend conformity to the chart). So I appreciate the chart, but at the same time I've seen the damage that can happen when people take these things to heart (when they strive for a target range based on a chart, but in reaching that weight they are found grossly underweight and face a few additional health concerns).

I use the chart as a guideline. Of course, body type has to be considered also. I am 5'11" and weigh in at 165. I don't want to go higher and so I really watch how much I eat and, sadly, often do not eat offered dessert and I would not mind slimming down a bit more.

I posted the chart primarily as information for others on the BB to check their weight and body mass.

That's like my daughter's boyfriend although he didn't grow that big until his senior year of high school. He had always been one of the shortest kids in school and now he's 6'4" with a 14 6E shoe. LOL His ideal weight is also significantly over the charts but his frame is HUGE. Like football player huge. Shoulder to shoulder, he almost has a hard time fitting through regular doors. :)
