Found this while looking at Synod of Dort's linked article from another thread:

In Lieu Of Sermon, Paul Washer Glares At Congregation For 43 Straight Minutes

BOSTONIA, VA—Bostonia Baptist Church scheduled missionary and preacher Paul Washer to guest speak on Sunday, but the church of 500 may have gotten more than they bargained for. In lieu of one of his renowned expository sermons, Washer elected to glare angrily at the congregation for a full 43 minutes before closing in prayer, sources confirmed Thursday.

Carlyle Marney once climbed to the pulpit, glared out at the congregation and then said, "The fool speaks. Does anyone listen?" He then turned and left.

Silent and short sermons are often the most powerful.

I wonder if that article was written so this phrase could be used:

Washer elected to glare angrily at the congregation for a full 43 minutes

Did he have to go to seminary for that?

What is in the world did Bostonia Baptist do to deserve this treatment? Lacking further information, I view this as massive disrespect to the congregation and to the office of pastor-teacher. Unless of course, the site linked to is a satirical one.

...it's satire. It's a site by Adam Ford, also www.adam4d.com, which isn't satirical.

“It was powerful,” 21-year-old Ryan Worthington recalls. “When he got to his second sermon point, which consisted of a slightly more aggressive and tortured facial expression, I broke down weeping as I realized that Christ offers me His own righteousness instead of my filthy rags.”

That was funny. The best part is I can picture it without much imagination.

Which is a good to know. If he (or some other invited pulpit guest) had pulled this in reality at a church where I was the senior teaching elder, I would have stepped in and said something after five minutes of this kind of shtick. The preaching of the Word is way to important to be taken lightly.

Here is a good one from the same site:

Animal Control Corrals Cage‐Stage Calvinist After Biting Incident

SANTA FE, NM—A local man is recovering at home after allegedly being bitten on the arm by James Scoover, 20, in what authorities are calling one of the worst cases of Cage‐Stage Calvinism they’ve seen this year.

“It was a scary situation and we’re all glad it’s over,” said Santa Fe Animal Control Officer Lyman Parkhurst in a press conference Monday. “We see bites by Dobermans, Boxers, Pit Bulls—you name it—but nothing will take your hand off quicker than a newly‐minted Calvinist.”

I wonder how many Negative Ratings this one will earn me. *laugh*

I thought so too...the first couple of encounters. After a while it just seems a bit sad.
