    And please do not:
    1) say Happy Memorial Day -- This is a day of respect for those who have fallen in battle.
My response is "Have a very respectful Memorial Day

    2) Do NOT call me (as a Veteran) a hero
having served in the military does not make me a hero,

    3) Do not thank me this weekend - as I am not being honored.
My response - Thank a Gold Star Mother.

This is and old poem and was written during WWI and I feel it is appropriate for today... Brother Glen... by John McCrae, May 1915

    In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

LTC McCrea was an interesting character. From Ontario, he served in the Canadian Army both as an artillery officer and as a medical doctor. He served with the Canadian Field Artillery both in the Second Boer War and the First World War. During the First, he went over in 1914 in the artillery, but was placed in command of No. 3 Canadian General Hospital in June, 1915.
