    Today in church the pastor reported that over a hundred people got saved on the missions trip. This is great news but then again knowing their approach to evangelism I have to wonder how many of the hundred are true converts and will show a interest after reciting the sinners prayer. Their approach is to approach a person and ask him/her if they want a relationship with Jesus and to then show him/her how to know him from the Bible. Instead of confronting him/her using the 10 commandments and or confronting sin, they start immediately with grace and hardly touch on sin.

    So does the amount of decisions make someone a great evangelist? No what makes someone a great evangelist is Biblical obedience and using Biblical methods to confront the lost. In other words it is faithfulness to God and trusting in Him. A good evangelist will understand the doctrines of Grace and understand their implication in evangelism. I rely heavily on the doctrines of grace in my evangelism and must understand them to be an effective evangelist. A good evangelist is faithful to preach the word and to make disciples.

    First, in this reply, I don't want anyone to assume I am denigrating using the decalogue in "soul winning."

    Second, in this reply, I don't want anyone to assume that I prefer one method over another.

    What I want to ask:
    Is there any place in the Scriptures were there is an example of a person being "saved" by using the law?

    For example: the Eunuch, the Philippian jailer, Paul (Saul), are each clear examples of conversion. Was the Decalogue used?

    As far as the question, "...does the amount of decisions make someone a great evangelist?" I agree that the answer is no. Whether one is convinced of the doctrines of Grace or that of some other view. Soul winning is one of the believer's "services" unto the Lord.

    Some plant, some water, God gives the increase.

    Great evangelists will not praise their own ability, and more often be humbled that God used them in such a capacity and giving them the skill(s) that a greater number of souls were effected by His Word.

    Great evangelists are best seen in hindsight. IOW, on a day to day basis, don't aspire to be a great evangelist. Aspire to be a profitable servant of your Savior. God will take care of the rest.

    To be called of God to be an evangelist for starters.

    11 And he gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
    12 for the perfecting of the saints, unto the work of ministering, unto the building up of the body of Christ: Eph 4

    Just pray for those who the missionary ppl reached. God saves even when we fumble. There are times we don't proclaim the gospel precisely. Sometimes we present it clearer, too. Just pray for them.
