Many these days do not understand what the main goal in evangelism is to glorify God. Most think that evangelism is all about saving souls (soul winning) and so they get frustrated at venues like Street evangelism or door to door since the results can be low. But of coarse I hold a Calvinist view of evangelism so some here will disagree with this post. Don't misunderstand me saving people from Hell is a good reason to evangelize but I am afraid its not the most important reason.

But only God can open the hearts of the elect and give them salvation.

I take the position that we make a mistake by placing a priority of the elements of an issue. It is equally true that God is glorified and souls are saved in evangelistic efforts. We could also include the sanctification of the believer as equally important. Peter gives us a good lesson on one being ministered to by being used to preach the Gospel.

I just don't see we should say one is more important than the other, on a general level, because this is, in my view, like saying the paddle is more important than the hull.

A preacher once said, "The chief end of man is to glorify God." Think it was Donald Grey Barnhouse that said that. I agree with him, this is true. However, we see how Barnhouse glorified God, by preaching the Gospel. How is God glorified if it is not in making Him known to man? Is that not the pinnacle of glorifying God, when we proclaim His Name? And in this Age, it is specific to preaching the Gospel. We preach the Gospel to see men saved.

It is all interrelated, in my view, and cannot be separated the one from the other.

    God bless.

You know this might explain why evangelism isn't really your cup of tea.

We need to go ahead and close this now. It ain't gonna end well.

And we know why you desperately need to get a pet rabbit! Besides evangelism is for everyone as all are called to be out witnessing (Mk 16:15).

Actually being obedient to God regardless of the outcome is far more important to God than the results of evangelism.

And you know that I really don't care how crazy you make yourself look by posting rabbits.

Evangelism is not for folks who don't know to deliver the truth in love. Based on some of your past comments, you seem better suited for apologetics.

The lack of understanding of this is reason which again, why in my opinion, the OP is not well suited for evangelism of the type for which he wants to seem to make a name for himself.

Law for the proud and grace for the humble is preaching the truth in love.

Not sure that you really understand the purpose of evangelism and the love of Christ if you can't see why you shouldn't be trying to dissect what you are.

Well, I look at it like this, Zaac: usually we don't really know what target the Lord has for us in our ministry. In regards to evangelism, that is. And even when we get the idea we are sure, which is possible, that doesn't mean that we are not being groomed for another ministry altogether, which will surface at a later date. Take Peter, for example, he was used to speak to Gentiles, but becomes largely associated with Jews. Paul, had a Gentile target, but it is my belief that he was also used mightily in regards to Israel. It is my belief Paul wrote Hebrews, the anonymity due to the fact that many Jews hated him, because they misunderstood his teaching. Not that is conclusive, but the point is that while we might set a target "audience," that doesn't mean that is God's ultimate intention for us. At the same time, neither would we dismiss the possibility that as we set about targeting certain groups, or certain ministry, God is still going to be teaching us along the way, until that time He either perfects the ministry (to the extent possible in this frame) or takes that which He has taught us and implements in the ministry we move on to.

And for all of us, we can sometimes either generalize, or go to extremes, which causes us to lack a balance in our doctrine, practice, and understanding. That doesn't mean we are disqualified from the training ground, and hopefully we can implement the lessons learned there into a balanced ministry that is profitable to evangelistic efforts.

That preacher's statement has never been forgotten, "The chief end of man is to glorify God," but, I have not neglected the daily conversation which interferes with that goal, lol.

I owe a debt of gratitude to every person that has ever debated with me, because I have profited from the experience. Doesn't matter if they were right, or I was right, from a perspective of growth.

And I will say again, no-one, I mean no-one...does open air preaching apart from the empowering of God. It is the hardest group, in my view, to preach to. And every open-air preacher has to start somewhere, and eventually we trust that God will perfect those ministries, and when that happens, we have, in the Body, a valuable member contributing to evangelistic efforts.

Okay, hope everyone has a blessed Fourth, and that we can all be grateful to God for the freedoms we have.

    God bless.

I see the purpose of evangelism as this... Both in a natural and spiritual application... Brother Glen

Matthew 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

25:35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

25:36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

25:37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

25:38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

25:39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

25:42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

25:43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

25:44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

25:45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
