Interesting question, Salty.

In this day and time, when having been in prison is a kind of status symbol for some, how many would choose prison over military?

If we were able to do this -- would there be certain MOS fields they wouldn't be allowed to sign up for?

 

Salty, having recently been around the caliber of soldier we have due to the great push for enlistments during the wars, I'd have to say tis would be a bad idea today. At the end of the war, our company had an entire platoon of guys that were getting chaptered out due to misconduct.

Most of the Army were good guys, but there was an alarming minority of slackers, druggies, malingerers, etc.

Not in this day or age. As that it would be very controversial. But there is talk of drafting women in the Armed Forces to be on an equal terms with the men.

 

Equal terms? Very, very few women can meet the minimum physical requirements for men. And, if there were ever an attempt to draft women, there would be a baby boom like we've never seen before.

 

Having been in a career field that demanded the females meet the same physical requirements as the males -- as long as they carried their own M60 and ammo can when it was their turn to be assigned, and they could run from cover-to-cover in flak vest, helmet, gas mask, and carrying their own weapon and ammo can ....

And yes, we had a few that purposely got pregnant so they could be re-assigned to other duties. But we also had males who did whatever they could to get out of the same duties....
