Texas Christian University is offering students three course credits for interning with the largest abortion business in the United States.

According to the pro-life campus activist group Students for Life of America, the history department of the Disciples of Christ-affiliated school in Fort Worth sent out an email to its students advertising an opportunity to intern with Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas.

As part of the internship, a student or students would work to "develop a project highlighting [Planned Parenthood's] history in Fort Worth since it was established here in 1935."

"Their office, on John Ryan Drive about 15 minutes from campus, has a substantial archival collection of photographs, scrapbooks, and other materials," the TCU email, which was obtained by Students for Life of America, reads. "There are also opportunities for oral history, interviewing local families who have long been involved in support of PP."

The email states that the Planned Parenthood office would also provide a computer and space to work.

"TCU students could take this on as a research project for a class, or they could receive three credits of HIST 30073, Internship in Public Policy. Key themes could include local history, gender, and the history of health care. The PP office would like as a final project about a 5-10-minute visual presentation (Prezi, video, etc.) of its history, to present to other groups and organizations in Fort Worth."

For those who won't click through the link to read the entire story:

    --
A TCU spokesperson said in a statement to TheBlaze that the institution "strives to provide diverse learning opportunities for students to effectively prepare them for the global community."

"The university offers many internships in any given semester, and does not support political or personal statements associated with any of them," the spokesperson asserted. "Students are encouraged to seek those that match their interests."

Just to point out that TCU is not necessarily endorsing Planned Parenthood, but that it is an option for students from the History Department to do practical historical work and receive credit for it.

Irrelevant. A Christian university has no business having anything to do with a slaughter house.

TCU does not present itself as a "Christian university."

Would that reasoning be valid, if a student wanted to intern for the KKK?

Simply what I said. TCU (they don't like to use the name "Texas Christian University") does not represent itself as a Christian university.

The name is a relic from the early days of the school. The Disciples of Christ denomination (quite liberal BTW), has no governing influence.

Here's a bit of an explanation.

Then they should change the name.

You seem to have made the assumption that I approve of the promotion of Planned Parenthood.

I think doing an honest history of Planned Parenthood is a worthwhile endeavor. I believe what Planned Parenthood wants to a varnished history of their organization to promote themselves, so I suspect the project is not honest. Therefore, I would be against it.

I think compiling an honest history of the KKK is a worthwhile endeavor. However, I doubt the KKK would want someone actually preparing an honest history, so I don't think the issue would ever come up.

You seem to have presented yourself in this thread which makes coming to that assumption easy.

    I agree.

They have had those discussions, and the result is that they want to be referred to as TCU, not Texas Christian University.

I am quite familiar with all of these issues since my home is less than a mile from TCU's campus, I have numerous friends who work at TCU at various levels (from administration to the classroom), I know a number of current TCU students, and my church is located near TCU and our college ministry serves the students.

So I can be a part of this forum for 14 years and then quote a part of the story to which you linked to clarify the issues at hand, then automatically be assumed to be pro-Planned Parenthood?

    Wow.

Yes. He said that TCU does not present itself as a Christian University kinda like Duke doesn't really present itself as one. They are affiliated but not governed by a church. Unlike, say Notre Dame or Boston College or SMU.

Now haven't you learned yet that there really is a clique and if your every thought doesn't align with what they THINK is the truth (even if you've got much better first hand evidence to the contrary), then you are shark food?

Just brush it off. You know what you know. And if he thinks he knows better even though you're right there...like water off a duck's back.:Thumbsup

I agree Crabby - If they were the ONLY medical facility in town, yes, I would use them - but if there is an alternative - I would do so.
Of course, I might get kicked out for passing out Bible tracts

The idea that Planned Parenthood is ever the only place in town is a myth.

    http://www.lifenews.com/2012/10/05/false-abortion-is-only-3-of-planned-parenthoods-services/

Planned Parenthood describes itself as “many things to many people.” That is true, in large part, because Planned Parenthood is in reality not what the organization presents itself to be.

For example, in the words of Planned Parenthood, abortion is “a very small part” of its operations, but simple math demonstrates that Planned Parenthood’s abortion business brings in, at bare minimum, a non-trivial 99 million dollars a year. Planned Parenthood has promoted the idea that re-directing funding away from Planned Parenthood to other providers would cause women to “lose access” to “mammograms,” while no Planned Parenthood clinic is even authorized to perform mammograms.

Countless “white lies” are the building blocks of Planned Parenthood’s façade. The following three claims in particular need to be deconstructed as an illustration of the depths of Planned Parenthood’s duplicity.

Biggest lie: 1. “Abortion is only 3% of Planned Parenthood’s services.”

    2. “You know, mammograms…”

To successfully understate its abortion business and garner support from those who are otherwise uncomfortable with abortion, Planned Parenthood knows it needs to overstate the non-controversial services it provides. When it comes to breast health services, Planned Parenthood has been doing more than “talking-up” what it does, Planned Parenthood has perpetuated a myth about something it does not provide: mammograms.

    3. “Untainted by a political agenda.”

Ironically, while “political” motivation seems to be Planned Parenthood’s favorite charge in attempts to discredit anyone who would regulate, investigate, or cut ties with the abortion industry, Planned Parenthood itself is a highly political machine.
