For months Trump has said he has a secret plan to defeat ISIS, but he's not going to reveal it because he doesn't want to let the enemy know about his plan. Previous to this he said he "knows more about ISIS than the generals" and that he would "bomb the H#ll out ISIS and take the oil."

So, last night on the Commander in Chief Forum on MSNBC, he was asked about his "secret plan". Watch:

Also on this forum, Trump said that the military generals of the US had been "reduced to rubble" and that many of them will have to be replaced. So here's the thing:

    1. Trump knows more about ISIS than the generals.
    2. Trump has a secret plan he doesn't want to reveal.
    3. Many of these generals will need to be replaced.
    4. Trump's secret plan is to ask the generals for a plan within 30 days of becoming President.

Can anybody make any sense out of that?

Apart from knowing more about ISIS than the generals (which he semi-walked back), the rest makes sense to me. Sacking generals is POTUS's prerogative.

Not revealing a plan to the enemy is valid. Asking for military commanders to come up with a plan is valid. Choosing the best plan of the two (or a combination of them) is valid.

He didn't say his secret plan was to ask the generals. He said he had a plan and that he wanted them to develop a different plan on their own. Then he could compare and make the best decision.

As usual, he's full of hot air. To steal one of O'Reilly's words,, he bloviates.
He did what he's done the last year and a half: said a bunch of nothing.

Did he really answer any of the questions that were asked? I keep wondering why these "journalists" aren't pushing him to actually answer the questions.

Isn't is likely that he would ask any generals he's thinking of sacking for their plan for defeating ISIS and if it doesn't line up with what he would do, then he would sack them?

Funny, but when George Bush Sr. went after Saddam he announced what he would do, even giving him an ultimatum and setting a deadline. "Our strategy to go after this army is very, very simple. First we're going to cut it off, and then we're going to kill it,"--Colin Powell

Same thing with George W. Bush in Afghanistan and Iraq. Remember "Shock and Awe"?

Obama infamously had his line in the sand in Syria.

Now, here comes Trump and he says he doesn't want to reveal his plan. Really, what happened to "bomb the [heck] out of ISIS and take their oil?"

Would it really matter whether or not we reveal our plan? What could ISIS do against it?

    He's said several things.
First (last summer/fall/winter) he said he would bomb the heck out of them and take the oil.
This spring/summer he said he had a secret plan for defeating ISIS, "so fast it will make your head spin."
Yesterday afternoon he said he would ask the generals to come up with a plan within 30 days.
Last night he said he would compare the general's plan with his secret plan and pick and choose what he liked.

"When I do come up with a plan that I like and perhaps agrees with mine, or maybe doesn't..." 0:40 in the video timeline.

The press has set such a low bar for Trump. Apparently if he reads off a teleprompter and looks presidential he gets a gold star.

It's possible. Who knows what he would do?

Desert Storm, Afghanistan, and Iraq all were different kinds of wars. We were (at the time) fighting established governments (albeit a bit less established in Afghanistan). With US military superiority, we can basically say, "Yeah, we're going to do this, and you can't stop us."

When things got dicey is when the insurgency battle began. It's the same with ISIS. Telegraphing our moves doesn't help because we aren't fighting a conventional enemy. If the plan is unconventional, then it's definitely important not to disclose it, so as not to compromise the operation.

IMO, we are going to have to fight ISIS a lot more like the CIA than like our military's usual tactics. Special forces are obviously front and center, and these kinds of operations demand the utmost secrecy. (So no emails about them! ....I kid, I kid!).

He has been a bit blustery on the topic.

And what is up with his plan to waste this money "re-building" our military fleets to Reaganesque levels? He called for 50,000 more Army troops, more than 70 new Navy warships, 13 new Marine battalions and nearly 100 Air Force planes. He says this type of spending is needed to stop the rise of ISIS.

Considering our current technology, do we really need to do any of that?

Yes, far to many generals currently have been put there by the Obama admin and are extremely liberal. They all need to go and Trump knows this. He will look for those within the military who have some sense about them and begin using them. Not hard to figure out.

That was my thinking too. He just wants to give those contracts to someone I guess. But it reinforces that he has no grasp of what it takes to be President.

I can see you have never been in the military and have no idea how rank is earned. Do you really believe that generals are simply appointed by the president? You have insulted every officer in the military.

You've got Obama on the brain. What on earth do you mean "put there by the Obama Administration?":Cautious Don't Generals get confirmed by the Senate? Since when is the Senate a part of a Presidential Administration?

And I don't recall hearing a cacophony of NAYS on votes coming from the GOP during general confirmations.

I'm not saying I agree with the previous post, but POTUS does have the ability to place (or order subordinates to place) generals in specific command positions. It's the President's prerogative as Commander-in-Chief.

Even if Senate confirmation is required, the President usually doesn't put someone blatantly unqualified up for consideration. The Senate tends to defer to the President's wishes.
