Well, I couldn't read the whole thing before it kicked me off for having ad blockers. (I don't have ad blocking software. I modify my hosts file.)

The anti-biotic resistance argument is an old chestnut. What did they start with? E coli bacteria. What did they end up? E coli bacteria.

And what you're seeing is not a change in the organism, but a change in the population. It's like the Peppered Moth deal. You heard it in school. Peppered Moths were mostly white before the industrial revolution. When soot coated everything and made the trees darker, the Peppered Moths became mostly dark. It wasn't pointed out to us that there were light and dark moths to begin with, and at the end of it all we still had light and dark moths. What changed was the population. The lighter moths were easier to see by predators. and so their numbers dwindled while the darker moths thrived. That's all that happened.

And that's all that's happening in the video. There were already antibiotic resistant bacteria in the culture, but their numbers were few. While those bacteria that were susceptible to the antibiotic died out, those that were resistant thrived.

So you're seeing a change in the population demographics. You're not seeing Evolution.

And it's interesting to note, no one has yet shown a bacteria culture to develop resistance to chlorine.
