Does Jude 1:8 support Lordship Salvation, and oppose Free Grace?

    Is the Dominion/Lordship in this passage referring to the lordship of Jesus, or of government?


    King James Bible
    Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities

    International Standard Version
    In a similar way, these dreamers also defile their flesh, reject the Lord's authority, and slander his glorious beings

    How so? Jude says these heretics reject Lordship, or, the Lord's authority.

    Those who disagree with what is known as LS do not deny God's authority. That debate is really more about what exactly is needed for man to recognize about God at the moment of salvation. It is not a rejection of God. So no Jude 1:8 is not applicable to this subject.

    Most of my favorite translations render the phrase "reject authority" which of course would include rejecting the lordship of Christ in our lives. It seems to be pointing toward those who have a prideful, high opinion of themselves. It is always wise to look at what might be parallel passages when trying to figure out the intended meaning of a phrase or verse.

    2 Peter 2:1 has those who deny the Master who bought them. 2 Peter 2:10 refers to those who "despise authority" again pointing to arrogance and pride. All of us battle to avoid following after our own lusts, and instead following Christ.
