Another vicious and sadly uninformed attack on underfunded and overworked medical personnel who are doing their level best to provide quality healthcare to over 5 million veterans.

Two bodies left unclaimed by their families. The one left in the morgue the longest was for 45 days. The deadline for the VA to take over is if the body is left unclaimed for 60 days.

And who is it that has systematically underfunded the VA for the past 6 years? Oh, yes! That's right! The REPUBLICAN Congress. You remember them. They ones who draw up and fund the federal government.

I have received my healthcare exclusively from the VA since 1998 (I am a disabled vet with a service connected disability) and have received excellent care that entire time.

How many of the people criticizing the VA received 100% of their healthcare from the VA?

I've also received excellent care through the VA, although the facilities are not the best at the two I've visited. I also have to be patient (I've been waiting two months to see an eye doc....three more weeks to go). This is one area that I worry about when it comes to Trump's suggestion that the medical portion compete with the civilian sector. From what I've seen, the VA is doing well with what it is given. I would not like to see what a more severe lack of funding would produce.

I never have to wait. If they cannot make an appointment to see me within two weeks I am vouchered out to a private doctor. Don't they do the same for you? (Assuming you are service connected disabled.)

No, I've never been vouchered out. I'm 90% service connected disabled. That said, I've never been seen for anything except minor stuff. A few x-rays, a brace, and now an eye exam. But for regular doctors visits and this exam I have had a long wait (not an emergency so it doesn't bother me).

Other than Dental, all my medical is at the VA. Have used 3 VA's - Beckly, WV; Salem,VA; and over 90% of the time, Syracuse VA - Esp in Syr - I have had excellent care. About the worse problme at Syr is that in the Cafeteria, the TV is on CNN news - I'm sure most would prefer FOX ( hmm, will send a letter to the VA)

There have been times, I have had an appointment 5 months out - BUT that was at my request. Mrs. Salty likes to go with me for my semi-annual physicals - so trying to make an appointment that fits both of our schedules -I almost have to get on my hands and knees to make an apportionment. Most often, I am able to get an appointment within 30 days- The longest I have ever had to wait was about 3 months - but it was not an urgent need.

For the last two years, I've been getting my medical from the San Francisco VA. Thanks to its partnership with UCSF Medical School, it has sufficient staff to take care of its patient load. The facilities are great. The cafeteria has a multi-million dollar view the Golden Gate for McDonald's prices.
