    Here is a list of 6 things travel will teach you that you will never learn in College or by sitting at home.

    1) You are capable of more than you've ever imagined.
    2) People are fundamentally good.
    3) You are but a tiny blip on a giant radar.
    4) Stereotypes are ridiculous.
    5) The world is not a dangerous place.
    6) One person can make a difference.

    Some good stuff here.

    However, I would say that #2 should be reworded. People are not fundamentally good. People are fundamentally sinful, evil, and in need of a Savior.

    I would state #2 as people are fundamentally all the same.

    To me you have neutered the line by using the world "all the same". [We are not talking spiritually here. That is a totally different topic.] We are not all the same in many ways. Too many differences in culture, language, societies to say they are all the same. But my experience is that the average person on the street is kind and very willing to help a person in need. That would be an interesting thread, people relating how they have been helped by strangers.

    Frankly, I have found people very friendly and helpful wherever I have traveled.

    One piece of advice though, it is best not to ask a policeman anything or do anything to draw their attention regardless of where you are. Sure, some will help, but many will only be a pain. Sorry to have to say this. This is more true in some countries than others, but still it is good advice.

    Also, the most dangerous animal in the world is not the polar bear, the lion, the tiger, the cobra. The most dangerous animal in the world is the customs agent in your home country. They can be dangerous anywhere and it is very ill-considered to irritate or anger them. I saw an agent take great joy in humiliating a person in customs line at Heathrow. I will say that person rather deserved being humiliated. I have seen others show great patience as well. I saw an American journalist being escorted to an room we could not see and probably having a very bad day. He really deserved it ... was extremely rude and arrogant to the customs agent. I saw a baggage handler go far above the call of duty to help a person who was kind to him when a suitcase was mistakenly sent to another city.

    Yes, there is truth there. Americans are, for the most part, friendly and helpful.





    but we still can't make a decent cup of coffee in 98% of our restaurants. :laugh:

    True story. I've traveled enough that I only do carry on. You just start to realise what you can live without while traveling. Of course having a kindle helps as I no longer have books taking up precious space

    I think the best kind of travelling is the one where you have to get out of your comfort zone - go study to a different country where they speak different language than English. I am from the Czech Republic and I went to the U.S. for one year. This year has completely changed me, my point of view at life and at people, it taught me how to live by myself, how to make decisions and so on, I could give you at least 100 things it gave me!!

    You will get to know more about God's creation. I am sure that where we live we do not have a chance to get closer to all wild animals. I like camping because it makes me to be conscious about safety and responsibilities

    I would love to be able to travel around the world. But I thank God I live in the age of technology so I can see the amazing pictures that are out there from people's travels. Biggrin

    Yes - totally agree! Travel is one of the best gifts you can give yourself and your children. To learn a different language, experience a different culture, worship in a different setting and see another part of the world is a wonderful thing.

    Agreed. But it also makes you question things. Things like --

    Why can't we make mass transportation more easily available and more effective?
    Why don't we travel more often via trains?
    Why do I feel so unsafe late at night in our cities?
    How come we can't find a way to provide healthcare to all citizens?
    Do we really need such big houses? And such big cars?
    Why do people always seem to live above their means and carry so much debt?
    How come we can't do more in renewable energy?
    Why do so many people live to work rather than work to live?

    Those are six good and true statements about life in general to live by. I suppose when we travel spaces help us discover not only those which are outside of us but in as well. Self-discovery is evident in travel. Beautiful.

    I am hoping to be able to travel...(putting hope to God as well as a safe journey if I pursue it with help). Everything went in two directions that I didn't expect when my son was accepted with financial assistance in March to attend summer camp for 2 weeks in July and I lost my job last month. I lost my mind on everything that was happening. I did need the rest and healing and I've always wanted to travel as I believe that nature gives our inner spirit a refresh. Never thought I would I would ask for help as I'm more of a giver than a taker. The traveling expenses is what hit me...how to get my son from Texas to Vermont where the academy is. I hope it is okay to post this on this forum and I apologize if this is not the right place to post. OR please pray for me.
